Turlock, Calif.--- The Cal State Stanislaus Warriors (10-9, 5-7 CCAA) held the visiting SF State Gators to just 31% shooting from the field in their 61-59 victory this evening at Warriors Arena in Turlock. With the loss, the Gators fall to 10-9 overall and 4-9 in the CCAA and into a three-way tie for eighth place in the CCAA.
“Tonight, I thought we played well but not good enough to win against a quality Cal State Stanislaus team,” added SF State Head Coach Joaquin Wallace. “As a team, we are improving every game and I am hopeful we can get some lay-ins in our upcoming games.”
Cal State Stanislaus jumped out an early 15-5 lead in the first ten minutes of the game and increased that lead to 25-13 with 6:42 to go in the half. SF State came back though and outscored the Warriors 11-4 in the next five minutes to cut the lead to 29-25 on two made free throws by Madeleine Schwartz (San Rafael, California, Terra Linda). The Warriors ended the half scoring the last four points to take a 33-25 lead into the locker room.
SF State started the second half outscoring its hosts 14-6 in the first nine minutes to cut the Warrior lead to just one (40-39). The Warriors followed that with a 6-0 run to increase their lead to 46-39 with 10:52 to go in the game. The visitors did not give up as once again they cut the lead to one (47-46) with 5:58 left on a made lay-up by ZaLisha Oliver (Sacramento, California, Luther Burbank). Once again, Cal State Stanislaus came back outscoring the Gators 9-2 to take a 56-48 lead with just 3:20 left on the clock.
SF State cut it to 57-55 with just 28 second left on two made throws by Jessica Hout-Freeman (Fremont, California, Washington), but the Warriors connected on 4 of 5 free throws down the stretch to take the 61-59 victory.
Desiree Butler (Lancaster, California, Pasadena City College) and ZaLisha Oliver paced the Gators each with 10 points while Donisha Tate had a team high 8 rebounds. Kate Busi led three Warriors in double digits with a game high 17 points. The Gators out-rebounded the Warriors 36-28 and were 29 of 37 from the charity stripe.
SF State will return home this Friday, February 6 for a conference game with Sonoma State. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm. The Gators will finish with seven of their last eight games at home.
