SF State Falls in Overtime at Sonoma State

ZaLisha Oliver Paced the Gators This Evening in Their Loss at Sonoma State
Rohnert Park, Calif..--- SF State women's basketball team lost its third straight CCAA game as they fell in overtime 66-59 at Sonoma State (5-6, 1-3 CCAA) this evening at Seawolf Gym in Rohnert Park. With the loss, SF State falls to 7-4 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA.
            “Our effort tonight was much better, we were just unable to finish the game when it counted,” said SF State Head Coach Joaquin Wallace. “We will learn from this and get better as the season moves forward.”
            Sonoma State jumped out to an early 10-4 lead in the first six minutes of the game, but the Gators outscored their hosts 17-2 in the next six minutes to take a 21-12 lead.  The Seawolves followed that Gator run with a 11-0 run of their own to take a 23-21 lead with 4:46 left in the half. SF State took a 27-26 lead into the locker room as the Gators outscored Sonoma State 6-3.
            The Gators outscored Sonoma State 16-6 in the first nine minutes of the second half to take their largest lead of the game (43-32). Sonoma State would not go away as the Seawolves tied the game at 44-44 in the next three minutes, but the Gators went on a 7-0 capped by a Madeleine Schwartz (San Rafael, California, Arizona State University) lay-up with 5:55 to go in the game to take a 51-44 lead. Once again, Sonoma State came back and outscored the Gators 11-4 in the final minutes to send the game in overtime as Olivia Larkin hit a jumper with 14 seconds to go. The Gators had a chance to win the game, but their three-point attempt fell short.
            In the overtime, the Seawolves took a 63-57 lead in the first ninety seconds and never looked back as they held on for a 66-59 victory. Michelle Gardner and Lauren Redfield paced the Seawolves each with 17 points while Redfield added 10 rebounds. Larkin finished with 14 points off the bench.
            ZaLisha Oliver (Sacramento, California, Luther Burbank) led the Gators with 14 points off the bench and had four steals while Jessica Hout-Freeman (Washington) added 10 points for SF State, who will continue its season long five-game road trip this coming week with two games in Southern California against CSU Dominguez Hills and Cal State LA on January 9 and 10 in Carson and Los Angeles, California.
