SAN FRANCISCO--- For the second straight Friday afternoon, it was the SF State Gators losing a conference game after taking the lead. This time, the Gators lost 2-1 in overtime to the visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks as Lloyd Sinclair connected on the gold goal off a pass from Josh Suggs with 13 seconds left in the first overtime period.
“We are snake bitten,” said SF State Head Coach Joe Hunter. “That's life and you need to play through it,” added Hunter. “I thought we played hard, but we need to finish the game.” “It is now a six game season and let's finish on a positive note.”
The first half was evenly played with the Gators recording more shots than Humboldt State (4-9-2, 3-7-1 CCAA) 9-5 but each team recorded five shots on goal. Josh Suggs recorded the first shot on goal attempt in the fifth minute, but the Gators' Thomas Comer (Danville, California, San Ramon Valley) recorded one of his game high 7 saves. SF State's attempt by Arnol Arceta (Bay Point, California, Mt. Diablo )was stopped by Kyle Verle in the 10th minute. Suggs had two more attempts stopped by Comer including one with three minutes left in the half while Arceta had another attempt stopped by Verle in the 42nd minute.
The Gators came out strong early in the second half recording two shots on goal including the game's first goal by Antonio Ugarte (Danville, Calforna, San Ramon Valley ) in the 63rd minute. Ugarte connected on a header off a free kick by Sasha Chalak (Concord, California, Acalanes) to give the Gators the 1-0 lead. This was his fourth goal of the season and Chalak's first assist.

The game remained 1-0 Gators (5-7-3, 2-6-3 CCAA) until six minute left in regulation when Suggs connected on the game-tying goal (his eighth of the season) off a corner kick by Brandon Perrier. Humboldt State had a chance to go ahead, but Suggs' attempt hit the post with five minutes left. SF State also had a chance for the lead but Verle recorded the save on Chalak's attempt with less than two minutes to go in the game.
Suggs recorded the first shot attempt in the overtime period in the 95th minute, but Comer stepped up and stopped it from going in the net. At the 99:47 mark of the first overtime period, Sinclair scored the golden goal for Humboldt State off a pass from Suggs to give the visitors the 2-1 victory.
This was SF State's sixth overtime game of the season and fourth in its last five games. SF State will end its season long four-game home stand this Sunday, October 18th for an 11:30am match with the No. 7 Sonoma State Seawolves at Cox Stadium. The Gators lost 2-0 to Sonoma State on September 25 in Rohnert Park.
