SEASIDE, Calif.--- For their fifth straight game, the SF State lost an one-goal game this afternoon in Seaside, California. This time, the Gators lost 3-2 to the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters (5-9-3, 4-6-3 CCAA) as the Otter scored the game-winner with less than three minutes left in regulation. The two teams will meet again this Sunday, October 25 at 11:30am for another conference game at SF State's Cox Stadium.
“Our effort was good today as we came back to tie the game in the 82nd minute after being down 2-1,” said SF State Head Coach Joe Hunter. “It should be a good game this Sunday between the two teams.”
SF State took an early 1-0 lead at the 9:38 mark when
Edgar Villagrana (Pittsburg, California, Pittsburg) connected on his fifth goal of the season off a cross from
Spencer Schwandt (Napa, California, Viintage). This was Schwandt's sixth assist of the season, which ties him for 11
th on the Gators' single season assist list.
The Gators'
Sasha Chalak (Concord, California, Acalanes) attempt to give the visitors a 2-0 lead was stopped by the Otters' Brenden Baca in the 19
th minute. Cal State Monterey Bay's Riley Johns' attempt to tie the game at one sailed high in the 22
nd minute. The Otters had two more chances to tie the game in the final minutes of the half, but one was stopped by SF State's
Eric Scolman (Oceanside, California, Oceanside) and the other went wide.
Cal State Monterey Bay came out strong in the second half as they tied the game at 1-1, three minutes into the second half as Eric Alsop connected on a free kick by Grant Robson that was tapped to him by Max Brixey. The Otters took a 2-1 lead, 11 minutes later when Brixey connected on a cross from Nate Torricelli.
The game remained 2-1 Otters, until the 81:26 mark when
Dylan Glass (Rancho Cucamonga, California, Alta Loma) tied the game for the Gators (5-9-3, 2-8-3 CCAA) off a cross from
Charles Conway (Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sandia) This was Glass' sixth goal of the season, which gives him 24 for his career and places him third on the SF State's All-Time Career Goals Scoring List.
Cal State Monterey Bay broke the tie with less than three minutes to go in the game when Alsop connected off a cross from Torricelli for the game-winner.
Eric Scolman had two saves in goal for the Gators in 58:10 of action in goal while
Thomas Comer (Danville, California, San Ramon Valley)had two saves in the final 29:30. Brenden Baca had one save in goal for the Otters, who out-shot SF State 11-5 and also had more corner kicks than their visitors (9-3).
