Gators Hold On To Defeat NDNU, 51-45

Andrea Ohlssen Led the Gators With a Season High 19 Points on 5 of 10 Shooting from Three-Point Range
Belmont, Calif.--- SF State's women's basketball team used a strong defensive effort and the three-point shooting of senior transfer Andrea Ohlssen to give them a 51-45 win at Bay Area rival, Notre Dame de Namur (0-2) this evening in Belmont. Ohlssen finished with a season high 19 points, going 5 of 10 from three-point range and a perfect four of four from the charity stripe for SF State.
            "Defensively, we played a solid overall game, however, we need to value our possesions more," said SF State Head Coach Joaquin Wallace.  "Andrea (Ohlssen) was huge for us tonight, which was a big boost for our team in regards to our perimter game, as well as, freshman Nicole starting her first college game at the point position this evening," added Wallace.  "In addition, both Donisha (Tate) and Dominique (Hunter) made clutch baskets in the end and Sidney Dobner really did a good job attacking their zone press for," noted the fifth-year head coach. "Overall, a great win against a solid team on the road is always a plus."
            Andrea Ohlssen's first two three's of the game capped a 10-0 run by the Gators in the first five minute of the game. SF State (2-2 built its largest lead of the half to 12 (18-6) at the 11:29 mark on another three by Ohlssen. The Argonauts cut the Gator lead to 26-20 with 1:11 to go in the half on a free throw by Jane Ryabulkihina, but Ohlssen hit her fifth three of the half to give the Gators a 29-20 going into the locker room at the half.
               The Gators came out strong in the second half as they built their largest lead of the game, 39-23, in the first six minutes of the second stanza. Freshman guard Nicole Hicks (Santa Clarita, CA, Saugus High School)six points keyed the Gators' 10-3 second half run. 
            NDNU would not go away as they cut the visitors' lead to 43-35 with 7:26 left in the game, but Dominique Hunter's lay-up gave back the Gators' double digit lead (45-35) with a little over seven minutes left on the clock. 
            Can'i Kealoha's third three of the game capped a 12-2 run by the Argonauts, which cut SF State's lead to 47-45 with 1:23 left on the clock. SF State outscored its hosts 6-0 in the final minute to take the 51-45 non-conference victory. Senior post player Donisha Tate (Oakland, California, Las Posita College)scored three of her seven points in the final 60 seconds as she also finished with a game high 11 rebound.

                SF State held the Argonauts to just 20% from the field including 27% from three-point land and also forced 19 turnovers by Notre Dame de Namur who was lead by Laura Zasley with 16 points and four steals.                         
            Freshman guard Nicole Hicks added a season high 10 points and four assists for the Gators, who will have their home opener this Saturday, November 21 at 5pm when the Western Washington Vikings come to the Swamp.
