San Francisco, Calif.--- In a battle of two Bay Area rivals in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader, it was the No. 29 Sonoma State Seawolves (6-19, 2-17 CCAA) winning both games 7-5 and 5-1 to take a three to zero games advantage in this weekend's four-game series. The two teams will wrap up the series tomorrow morning in Rohnert Park for a 11am starting game at Seawolf Field.
Brian Wright scored the game one's first run in the top of the third inning after reaching on an error and later scoring on a sacrifice fly by Nick Ramos.
Patrick Haugen (Cayucos, California, Cuesta College)'s solo home run in the Gators' half of the third tied the game at one. Sonoma State retook the lead in the top of the fourth, but the Gators came right back and tied the game on a RBI single by
Jeff McCall (Santa Rosa, California, Santa Rosa Junior College) which scored
Bobby Carini (Pleasant Hill, California, Canada College).
The Seawolves broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning capped by a two-run double to right center by Kyle Jones to give Sonoma State a 7-2 lead. SF State would not go away as the Gators scored once in the fifth, once in the sixth on a home run to right center by
Matt Memeo (Cottonwood, California, Shasta College), and once in the seventh to make it 7-5 Seawolves heading into the final two innings.
Taylor Lewis came on in the bottom of the ninth to record a scoreless ninth and record his second saves to preserve the victory for starting pitcher, Morgan Rodriguez (2-0). Rodriguez went 6.0 innings, gave up five hits and four runs while striking out six. Wright and Max Kirk each had two hits to lead the Sonoma State hitting attack.
Jeff Henning (Chico, California, Shasta College) (1-4) took the loss for SF State while
Haugen led the Gator hitters going 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two runs driven in.
In the night cap, Sonoma State scored all the runs the Seawolves needed with a three-run third keyed by a two-run single by Leo Avila. The Seawolves added two insurance runs in the sixth to increase their lead to 5-0.
SF State (6-19, 2-17 CCAA) scored its only run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to right field by

Zack Anderson (Ventura, California, Ventura College).
Kyle Mastellar (Corning, Shasta Junior College)(0-6) recorded the loss for the Gators, pitching six innings, giving up six hits and five runs while walking three and striking out five.
Matt Memeo was 3 for 3 to lead the way for the Gators.
Kendall Davis (1-0) picked up the win for Sonoma State and Troy Brown recorded his second save. Avila finished game two, 2 for 3 as did Kris Haycock.
