San Francisco, Calif.--- SF State's softball team split its California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader with the No. 5 ranked Humboldt State Lumberjacks, losing game one 7-5, before coming back to take the night cap 3-1. SF State improves to 14-15 overall and 6-12 in the CCAA while Humboldt State is now 23-8 overall and 15-7 in the CCAA. The two teams will finish off the four-game series tomorrow morning with an 11am starting doubleheader at SF State's Softball Field.
Humboldt State's Nikki Ketteringham hit a two-run two-out single through the right side in the top of the fourth to give the Lumberjacks a 2-0 lead. The Gators cut the lead in half on a RBI single to left center by
Kendra Wood (San Jose, California, Lynbrook).
In Humboldt State's sixth, the Lumberjacks scored five runs keyed by a bases clearing double by Lindsay Warren to give the visitors a 7-1 lead. The Gators battled back to score four runs in the bottom of the seventh capped by a two-run double by
Kendra Wood. Jenna Anderson came on in relief and got the final Gator out on a strike out with the bases loaded.
Gracie Perez (9-3) picked up the win in game one for Humboldt State while Jenna Anderson recorded the save. Warren finished the game with three RBIs while Geneva Perrine had three of the Lumberjacks' 11 hits.
Ashley Jackson (Vallejo, California, St. Patrick's-St. Vincent) (7-6) recorded the loss for SF State while
Danielle Chapman (San Jose, California, San Jose City College) and
Kendra Wood each had three hits to lead the Gator hitting attack.
In game two,
Kendra Wood (2-4) struck out a career high nine batters while giving up seven hits and one run en route to her second complete game. Nichole Parada (10-3) recorded the loss for the Lumberjacks.
Lea Cardenas (Sanger, California, Sanger) hit a two-out RBI double to drive in the Gators' first run in the bottom of the first. Humboldt State tied the game at 1-1 on a RBI single by Caitlin Klug. SF State retook the lead on a sacrifice fly by
Chapman's which scored
Jessica Delgado (Monterey, California, North Monterey). The Gators added an insurance run on
Alyssa Esquibel (San Jose, California, Archbishop Mitty) RBI double in the fifth.
Cardenas and
Delgado each had two hits apiece to lead the Gator hitting attack.
