TURLOCK, Calif. – The San Francisco State baseball team fell to top-ranked Cal State Stanislaus, 6-2, in a California Collegiate Athletic Association game Sunday at Warrior Field in Turlock, Calif.  Despite a solid pitching performance from starter Patrick Haugen (Cayucos, California, Cuesta College) the Gators (5-13, 1-11 CCAA) were unable to avoid a weekend sweep at the hands of CSUS, which improves to 16-3 overall and 8-2 in conference play.

The Warriors got on the board with two outs in the second inning when Leandro Dottavio singled to drive in Seth Hudson, who previously doubled.

SF State loaded the bases in its half of the fifth on a pair of walks by Zack Anderson and Nick Nyman (Susanville, California, Lassen, Lassen College), while Keith Garcia (Ventura, Oxnard College) singled to right.  However, Eric Federico registered a strikeout to get out of the jam.

The Gators broke through in the sixth when Jeff McCall (Santa Rosa, California, Pinor, Santa Rosa Junior College) belted his first home run of the season, a solo shot to left center on an 0-2 pitch, knotting the score at 1-1.  CSUS reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the frame, however, plating two unearned runs on Dottavio's two-out single through the left side.

Trailing 3-1, the Gators narrowed the gap in the top of the eighth after Sean Proni (San Francisco, College of Marin) scored on a wild pitch by reliever Eric Cendejas.  Proni led off the inning with his fifth double of the year and advanced to third on a groundout.  However, the Warriors tacked on three runs in the bottom of the inning to pull away for the victory.

Haugen (2-3) produced his second-highest strikeout total of the season in the loss, fanning eight Warrior batters while giving up just one earned run on five hits and two walks in seven innings.  Federico (3-1) picked up the win, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk in 2 2/3 innings after relieving starter Matt Costa in the fifth, while Cendejas posted his third save.

SF State returns to the diamond next weekend when it plays host to Chico State in a four-game set at Maloney Field. Game one of the series gets underway Friday, March 13, at 3 p.m.
