Proni Keys Gators' Split with No. 15 Sonoma State

Sean Proni Went 4 for 6 in the Gators' Split at No. 15 Sonoma State
 
Rohnert Park, Calif.--- Sean Proni (Valencia, CA, College of Marin) went 4 for 5 in the Gators' game one 13-8 win over the No. 15 Sonoma State Seawolves (22-9) to key their non-conference doubleheader split with the Seawolves. The 13-8 win snaps Sonoma State's 21-game winning streak against SF State (8-25). 
            The Gators started game one taking a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The first six Gators reached on base. Proni had a RBI single which scored Keith Garcia (Ventura, Oxnard College)and then with one out, Matt Memeo (Cottonwood, California, Shasta College)reached on an error that scored Bobby Carini. Then the next batter, Zack Anderson (Ventura, California, Ventura College), hit a three-run home run to left field to score Proni and Memeo to give the Gators a 5-0 lead.

            Sonoma State scored its first run in the bottom of the second on a home run by Brian Joyce. The Seawolves then cut the Gator lead to 5-3 on Ryan Averkieff's two-run double in the fourth. 
            SF State's Matt Memeo hit a two-run home run in the fifth to cap a three-run frame to increase the visitors' lead to 8-3. The Seawolves added a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to cut the Gator lead to 8-7.
            Once again, the Gators' bats came alive with a two-run seventh inning as Proni hit a RBI double to score Carini and then scored on a RBI double by Anderson to increase SF State's lead to 10-7. 
            Sonoma State scored its final run in the eighth inning on Danny Pignataro's RBI single. The Gators came back with three-run in their half of the ninth to increase their lead to five (13-8) heading into the Seawolves' final at-bat, which the Seawolves stranded the bases loaded with one out. Spencer Kreisberg (Tigard, Oregon, Los Medanos College)recorded his first save of the season as he got the final two Seawolves out on a strike out and a ground out.
            Eric Keithley (Santa Rosa , Santa Rosa JC) (3-1) picked up the win for SF State, pitching four innings, giving up five hits and three runs while striking out six and walking two. Kreisberg pitched the final three innings of the game, giving up five hits and one run while striking out three and walking one.
            SF State had 15 hits off of the Seawolves' pitchers including two each by Anderson, Carini, and Jeff McCall (Santa Rosa, California, Santa Rosa Junior College)Anderson finished the game with four runs driven in while Memeo had three RBIs.
            Jonathon Flinn (0-1) recorded the loss for Sonoma State while Pignataro and Averkieff each had three hits to lead the Seawolf hitting attack in game one.
            In the night cap, Sonoma State scored once in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead. The Seawolves then broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning keyed by Joe Slater's two-run single and Nick Ramos' two-run single to give the hosts a 7-0 lead. 
            Four Seawolves' pitchers combined on a three-hitter with Casey Slate (2-0) picking up the win. Slate pitched three innings and gave up one hit and struck out six. Ramos led the way for the Seawolf hitters going 2 for 3 with two RBIs while scoring three times.
            Kyle Pfeiffer (Palo Cedro, Shasta College)(0-1) picked up the loss for SF State, who returns home this Monday with a pair of non-conference games against Point Loma at 11am and Cal Baptist at 2pm. The Gators will then play Point Loma in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday beginning at 2pm.
