Assadi Scores Golden Goal in Gators Come-From-Behind 2-1 Road Win

Saman Assadi Connected On His First Goal as a Gator in the Gators' 2-1 OT Win
ARCATA, Calif-- Three minutes into the first overtime period, SF State junior transferSaman Assadi (Sacramento, California, American River College)connected on a shot from 25 yards out that went over the Humboldt State goalkeeper's header for the game-winner in the Gators' come-from-behind 2-1 conference road victory over the Lumberjacks this evening at Redwood Bowl in Arcata.

“It was a totally team effort this evening,” said SF State Head Coach Joe Hunter. “Jorge Calderon, Jr. (Vista, California, Palomar College)., and Micah Bradshaw (Dana Point, California, Dana Point HS) came off the bench and performed well and Saman's (Assadi) goal was a great golden goal,” added Hunter. “We came out and put the pressure on the Lumberjacks in the second half and the overtime period to key our victory.”

The Lumberjacks (1-6-2, 1-5-1 CCAA) scored the game's first goal with 7 minutes left in the first half as Lyle Menk connected on a ball from Scott Mariani that he blasted into the lower right corner of the goal. SF State's Adam Nowak's attempt to tie the game with less than two minutes left in the first stanza was stopped by Kyle Verle.

SF State came out strong in the second half as they six of the half's eight shot attempts including the game-tying goal by Charles Conway (Albuquerque, New Mexico, University of New Mexico) at the 68:35 mark of the game. For the second time in three games, Conway connected on a header off a throw-in from Malcolm Linton (Pasadena, California, Pasadena City College). This was Conway's second goal of the season and Linton's team high fourth assist.

The remaining 22 minutes saw just four shot attempts all by the Gators (4-4-1, 2-4-1 CCAA).

SF State continued its offensive onslaught in the first overtime period as Assadi connected on the golden goal, his first of the season, three minutes into the extra period.

The Gators outshot their hosts 15-8 including 11-2 in the final two periods and also had the advantage in corner kicks (2-0).

Kyle Verle had three saves in goal for the Lumberjacks while Mike McNeill (Oakdale, California, Cal State Stanislaus) also had three saves in goal for SF State, who continues its five-game road trip this Sunday in Rohnert Park for a 2pm conference game with Sonoma State. The Seawolves defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 2-0 this afternoon in Rohnert Park.
