Gators Finish Season with 3-0 Win Over Humboldt State

SF State Recognized Its Four Seniors Prior To The Gators' 3-0 Win Over Humboldt State This Afternoon
SAN FRANCISCO--- SF State's men's soccer finished their 2010 season with a 3-0 win over the visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks this afternoon at Cox Stadium on the campus of SF State. With the win, the Gators finished the season with a 8-9-1 overall record and a 6-9-1 record in the CCAA.

“What a wonderful way to end the season,” said SF State Head Coach Joe Hunter. “I am really happy for the seniors,” added Hunter. “We stuck to the plan that we had set for this afternoon. “We got the goals when we needed them and the key was the second one by Tony Terrazas,” noted Hunter. “This gives us momentum going into next season.”

SF State controlled the entire as the Gators outshot the Lumberjacks 29-10 including 16-3 in the first half and also recorded more shot on goals, 13-6.

Edgar Villagrana (Pittsburg, California, Pittsburg) recorded the first shot on goal for the Gators in the first nine seconds of the game, but Kyle Verle recorded his first of game high 10 saves. SF State connected on its first goal in the 31st minute as Villagrana connected on his sixth goal of the season off a pass from Sasha Chalak (Concord, California, Acalanes) to give the Gators a 1-0 lead.

Adam Swartz went to tie the game for Humboldt State (4-11-3, 4-10-2 CCAA), but the Gators' Mike McNeill (Oakdale, California, Cal State Stanislaus)recorded the save.

Tony Terrazas (Irvine, California, Cal State Fullerton) doubled the score as he connected on his second goal of the season off a pass from Antonio Ugarte (Danville, Calforna, San Ramon Valley ) and Joseph Flores (Clovis, California, Clovis HS)in the 71st minute. The Gators finished their scoring in the 77th minute as Ugarte connected on his own missed shot for his fourth goal of the year.
McNeill had five saves in goal for the Gators while SF State also recorded more corner kicks its visitors, 9-1.
