Gators Blank No. 8 CSUSB on the Road, 1-0

Antonio Ugarte Scored The Game-Winner in SF State's 1-0 Win on the Road This Afternoon
SAN BERNARDINO –SF State men's soccer team improved to 6-4-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the CCAA as the Gators won their third straight game with a 1-0 win at No. 8 Cal State San Bernardino this afternoon. The Gators also recorded their second straight shutout victory and third of the season.

“Once we again, the players bought into the game plan that we worked on during the week and results paid off,” said SF State Head Joe Hunter. “This was a good road win at a nationally ranked opponent's place,” added Hunter. “This was a total team effort for the third straight game.”

The first half was controlled by the Coyotes (7-3-1, 5-3-1 CCAA) as they outshot SF State 6-3 including recording one shot on goal attempt by Julio Ayala in the 32nd minute. The Gators had a couple of chances to take the lead in the first half by the Coyotes' Tanner Olinger recorded three saves including one on a penalty kick.

The Gators came out strong in the second half and scored in the eighth minute of the second stanza as Antonio Ugarte (Danville, Calforna, San Ramon Valley ) connected on a ball from Edgar Villagrana (Pittsburg, California, Pittsburg) for his third goal of the season, which proved to be the game-winner.

Cal State San Bernardino had three chances to tie the game in the final 20 minutes, but the Gators' Mike McNeill (Oakdale, California, Cal State Stanislaus)stopped all three including the final one at the 81st minute.

McNeill finished with five saves on the day while Olinger had six for the hosts. The Gators had 7 corner kicks to the Coyotes' one.

SF State will return to the pitch this Sunday morning at 11:30am, when the Gators face Cal Poly Pomona in another conference game in Pomona.
