Four Run Third Inning Keys Gators' 6-3 Win Over No. 8 Chico State

Kevin Dultz Had His 8th Multiple Hit Game Today in the Gators' 6-3 Win in Chico
CHICO, Calif.--- SF State Gators defeated the No. 8 Chico State Wildcats 6-3 this afternoon in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) game at Nettleton Stadium in Chico, California. Junior Kevin Dultz went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Drew Andersen and Ryan Williams each had two hits apiece for the Gators.
 
The game was scoreless until the Gator third when SF State erupted for four runs on just four hits and capitalized on two Chico State errors. Matt Quintero (San Gabriel, California, University of San Francisco) opened the inning reaching base on a hit batsman. He advanced to second when Ben Mielke (Arcata, California, Shasta College)reached on an error. Drew Andersen (Gilroy, California, William Penn University) drove in Quintero with the game's first run on a single through the right side. With one out, Nick Nyman (Susanville, California, Lassen College) walked and Dultz drove in Andersen with a single while Nyman scored on an error. Ryan Williams (Woodland, California, Yuba College) followed that with a run scoring single to score Dultz to give the Gators a 4-0 lead. 
 
Chico State (20-8, 15-7 CCAA) cut the Gator lead in half with a two-run fifth capped by a two-run single by Michael Murphy. Ben Manlove cut the Gator lead to 4-3 with a two-out single to left field in the Wildcat sixth.

Greg Kline (Las Vegas, Nevada, San Joaquin Delta College) drove in an insurance for the Gators in the top of the seventh with a run scoring single that drove in Dultz, who reached base on a two-out double to center field. SF State added another run in the top of the ninth to increase its lead to 6-3. 
 
Patrick Haugen (Cayucos, California, Cuesta College) recorded his second save of the season as he retired the Wildcats in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the 6-3 win for the Gators (13-18, 6-12 CCAA). Haugen gave up just one hit while striking out three batters. 
 
Kyle Mastellar (Corning, California, Shasta Junior College) (3-2) picked up the win in relief, pitching 1.1 innings, giving up three hits and one run. Ryan DeJesus (Westlake Village) started the game, going 4.2 innings, giving up 4.2 innings, giving up five hits and two runs while striking out three and walking one. Nic Banaugh (Novato, California)pitched two scoreless innings of relief, striking out two Wildcats. 
 
Scott Greene (2-1) recorded the loss for Chico State, who lost to the Gators for just the third time in 25 meetings in Chico. Deven Braden led the Wildcat batters going 3-for-4 with a run scored.
 
The two teams will finalize their four-game series tomorrow morning at 11am at SF State's Maloney Field for a conference doubleheader.
