SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.--- Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes rallied from a 2-0 deficit to score nine unanswered runs in the final four innings to defeat the visiting SF State Gators, 9-2 in the series finale of the four-game weekend series between the two teams in San Bernardino. Senior
Ryan Williams (Woodland, California, Yuba College)hit his team leading sixth home run of the season and drove in both of the Gators' runs this afternoon at Fiscalini Field.
SF State (19-27, 12-20 CCAA) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as
Drew Andersen (Gilroy, California, William Penn University)led off the inning with a single and scored on a two-out single by Williams. Williams gave the Gators a 2-0 lead with a lead-off home run to right field in the top of the sixth inning.
Nic Banaugh (Novato, California, College of Marin) (1-6) held the Coyotes scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when they erupted with a four-run inning. Cody Madison opened the sixth with a single and advanced to second when Bryant Veiga walked. They each advanced a base on a sacrifice by Julio Torres. Andrew Harrison drove home both runners on a two-run single to tie the game at 2-2. Then James Kono drove home Harrison with a triple and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Brent Planck to give the hosts a 4-2 lead.
Cal State San Bernardino (25-13, 24-12 CCAA) broke the game open with a four-run seventh inning keyed by a three-run two-out home run by Harrison, who finished the game 2-for-4 with five runs batted in. The Coyotes added an insurance run in the eighth inning on a home run by Planck.
Trevor Longfellow (4-3) picked up the win, pitching 8 innings, giving up 8 hits and two runs while striking out two and walking one.
Banaugh pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 6 hits and four runs, striking out three and walking four in the start for SF State. Williams and
Tyler Overstreet (Fresno, California, Santa Barbara City College)each had two hits for the Gators, who will return to the diamond this Friday, April 23 at 2pm, when they begin a four-game series with Cal State Monterey Bay beginning with a single game at SF State's Maloney Field.
