McKINLEYVILLE, Calif.--- Finally playing the four-game series that was supposed to be played a month ago, it was the Humboldt State Lumberjacks extending their winning streak to seven by sweeping a doubleheader from the visiting SF State Gators 7-1 and 12-4 in six innings . The two teams will continue their four-game series tomorrow morning with another doubleheader with game one to begin at 10am also at McKinleyville High School in McKinleyville.
The Lumberjacks jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in their half of the first inning when Geneva Perrine and Kristin Nouzousky scored on a two-out error by the Gators as Anna Feick reached base. They added two more runs in the second with Lindsay Warren opening the inning reaching base on an error and later scoring on a single by Chrissy Stalf. Nouzousky also drove in Ketteringham with a sacrifice fly.
Humboldt State, who is now 15-2 in the Lumberjacks' last 17 games, added two more insurance runs on a double by Feick.
Kylie Herrada (Gilroy, California, Gilroy)scored the Gators' run in their frame of the fifth. She singled with one out and advanced to third when
Kendra Wood (San Jose, California, Lynbrook)reached on an error. Herrada scored on a RBI ground out by
Kelsey Wood (San Jose, California, Lynbrook).
The hosts added an insurance run in its half of the sixth to make the final 7-1 Lumberjacks (28-21, 17-13 CCAA). Ketteringham finished the game 2-for-3 scoring twice and Stalf also had two hits for the Lumberjacks. Gracie Perez (13-7) picked up the win, pitching seven innings, giving up 8 hits and one unearned run while striking out six and walking two.
Herrada and
Kendra Wood each had two hits and
Ashley Jackson (Vallejo, California, St. Patrick's-St. Vincent) (10-10) picked up the loss for SF State.
In the night cap, Humboldt State took a 6-0 lead after the first two innings of the game. Ketteringham led off the game with lead-off double and scored the game's first run on a single by Nouzouvsky. The Lumberjacks scored five runs in their half of the second inning capped by a two-out two-run home run to right center by Stalf.
SF State (19-28, 12-18 CCAA) cut the Lumberjack lead to 6-2 on a two-run two-out single through the left side by
Kendra Wood in the Gators' frame of the third inning. Humboldt State came back though and added an insurance run on a solo home run by Felicia Viveiros.
The Gators would not go away as they scored two more runs in the top of the fifth to cut the Lumberjack lead to 7-4.
Heather Jensen (Sacramento, California, Del Campo)started the scoring with a one-out solo home run to center field, her fourth of the season. Then with two outs Herrada singled and later scored on a single by
Kelsey Wood.
Humboldt State then erupted for five runs in the bottom of the sixth with two coming on a double by Feick to end the game at 12-4 Lumberjacks due to the eight-run rule.
Perez picked up her second win of the game, by pitching 5.2 innings, giving up five hits and four runs (two earned) while striking out three and walking two. Five different Lumberjacks had two hits apiece.
Vanessa Truan (San Jose, California, Leland) (2-6) recorded the loss for SF State and Jensen scored twice while
Kendra Wood drove in two runs to lead the way for the Gators.
