Pat Haugen Picked Up His 8th Win of the Season in the Gators' 6-2 Night Cap Win in Seaside
SEASIDE, Calif-- SF State senior pitcher Pat Haugen (Cayucos, California, Cuesta College)became the Gators' all-time career leader in SF State's conference doubleheader at Cal State Monterey Bay this afternoon. Haugen struck out 10 Otters in the Gators' 6-2 night cap win over Cal State Monterey Bay. He now has 173 in his career and 108 this season, which is also the single season mark at SF State. The Gators lost the opener 17-4, but still lead the weekend four-game series two games to one.

In the opener, the Gators took a 3-0 lead after the first two innings. Ryan Williams (Woodland, California, Yuba College)drove in Drew Andersen (Gilroy, California, William Penn University) with the game's first run on a sacrifice fly to center field after Andersen led off the game with a single. The junior shortstop then advanced to second when Nick Nyman (Susanville, California, Lassen College) was hit by a pitch and went to third on Kevin Dultz (Altadena, California, Glendale Community College) bunt single in the top of the first inning.

Andersen then drove in the Gators' next two runs in the second inning on a two-out double to center field that drove in Nick Bowerman (Oakley, California, Mount Mercy College)and Devon King (San Diego, Sierra)

Cal State Monterey Bay took the lead with a four-run fifth inning capped which was started off by a two-run home run to left center by Jordan Smeds. SF State came back and tied the game at 4-4 when Williams scored on an error by the Otters. He started the inning with a double down the left field line and advanced to third on a wild pitch and then scored on the error.

The Otters (8-35, 4-30 CCAA) then broke the game open with a 11-run sixth inning, which they had eight hits and batted around the order to take a 15-4 lead. They added two more runs in the seventh on a two-run double to right field by Thomas George.
All nine of the Otters' batters had at least one hit apiece with George leading the way going 4-for-5. Patrick McClain (2-6) picked up the win for the Otters, going the whole way, giving up 7 hits and four runs (three earned) while striking out 12 and walking three.

Andersen had two of the Gators' seven hits including his sixth double of the season. Ryan DeJesus (Westlake Village, Westlake) (2-4) recorded the loss for SF State, pitching 5 innings, giving up 8 hits and 5 runs while striking out two.

In the night cap, Bowerman gave the Gators a 2-0 lead with a two-run home run in the top of the second inning his sixth of the season which scored Williams. Cal State Monterey Bay tied the game in its half of the second. George and Brent Sargenti had back-to-back triples and then Sargenti scored on a single by Friedman to tie the game at 2-2.

That is the only runs that Haugen would give up in the game. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 8 hits and two runs while striking out 10 and walking three. Haugen (8-3) broke Kevin Rowe-Cerveny's 20-year old single season record of 98 strikeouts and Roberto Torres' career mark of 168 strikeouts in his career.

SF State took the lead for good in its half of the fifth inning. Tyler Overstreet (Fresno, California, Santa Barbara City College) doubled down the left field line to open up the inning and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ben Mielke (Arcata, California, Shasta College). Then Andersen walked to put runners on the corners for Nyman, who then successfully hit a sacrifice bunt to drive in Overstreet with the go-ahead run.

The Gators then scored four runs in the top of the seventh to increase their lead to 6-2. Mielke led off the inning with a bunt single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Andersen. Nyman then singled a 4-2 pitch to right center to drive in Mielke.  Dultz then stepped up to the plate and hit his sixth home run of the season and second in two days to left center to give the Gators a 6-2 lead.

In the Otters' seventh, the hosts tried to rally as they had two runners on base with only one out but Haugen struck out the final two batters to preserve the 6-2 Gator win.

Jacob Flores and Jason Okomoto each had two hits for the Otters. Justin Aguilera (2-8) recorded the loss for Cal State Monterey Bay, pitching 6.1 innings giving up 8 hits and 5 runs while striking out one and walking three.
