Pfeiffer Keys Gators' Doubleheader Split with Cal State Stanislaus

Kyle Pfeiffer Picked Up His First Win of the Season in the Gators' 5-4 Win in Game Two
TURLOCK – SF State and Cal State Stanislaus split a pair of one-run ball games this afternoon at Warrior Field to split their four-game series this weekend. The Warriors won game one 4-3 with a four-run seventh to key their come-from-behind win while the Gators behind the strong relief pitching of Kyle Pfeiffer won the night cap, 5-4. 
 
For the second straight game, the SF State Gators' baseball team lost a game in heartbreaking fashion. Today, the Gators lost 4-3 after leading 4-0 going into the top of the last inning. Cal State Stanislaus scored four runs in its half of the seventh inning and the Warriors held the Gators scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 4-3 lead.
 
SF State took a 3-0 lead in its half of the third inning with a three-run inning.Brian Bianchi (Los Altos, California, College of San Mateo)for the opened the inning with a lead-off single through the left side and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Tyler Overstreet (Fresno, California, Santa Barbara City College). Then with two outs, Drew Andersen (Gilroy, California, William Penn University) walked and advanced a base on a wild pitch as did Bianchi. Nick Nyman (Susanville, California, Lassen College) then drove in Bianchi with the game's first run on an infield single.Ryan Williams (Woodland, California, Yuba College)then made it 3-0 Gators with a two-run single middle that drove in Andersen and Nyman. 
 
The game remained 3-0 Gators until the top of the seventh when the Warriors erupted for four runs. Thomas Shull opened up the inning reaching on an error and advanced to second on a one-out single by Correy Conflenti. Shull scored on a one-out single down the right field line by Douglas Porras. Still with one out, David Contreras drove in Conflenti to make it 3-2 Gators. Michael Johnson drove in the tying run in Porras on a double to left field and then Andrew Graves drove in the game-winning run in Contreras with a sacrifice fly. 
 
The Gators had a chance to tie the game in their half as Bianchi singled to open up the inning and advanced to second on a ground out by Sean Proni (Valencia, California, College of Marin). Then with one out, Kory Wallace struck out the next batter. Leonard Giammanco then came in and got the final out on a ground out. 
 
Koral Wallace (6-3) picked up the win, pitching 6.2 innings, giving up four hits and three runs while striking out five and walking three. Giammanco recorded his second save. Johnson had three of the Warriors' 10 hits and Shull went 2-for-3.
 
Pat Haugen (Cayucos, California, Cuesta College) (6-2) recorded the loss, pitching 7.0 innings, giving up 10 hits and four runs (two earned) while striking out six and walking two. Bianchi had two of the Gators' four hits.
 
In the night cap, the Gators took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Drew Andersen opened the game reaching on a fielding error and advanced to third on a single by Nyman. He scored on a double the right field line by Kevin Dultz (Altadena, California, Glendale Community College). Nyman scored on a fielder's choice ground out by Matt Quintero (San Gabriel, California, University of San Francisco).

The Warriors (17-16, 12-11 CCAA) tied the game in their half of the first inning on  back to back run scoring singles by Graves and Filkins. Johnson's single to right field with one out in the third scored Canepa to give Cal State Stanislaus a 3-2 lead. Hungerford homered to left center to increase the hosts lead to 4-2.
 
SF State tied the game in the top of the fifth. Devon King (San Diego, San Francisco City College) opened the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Ben Mielke (Arcata, California, Shasta College). Then Andersen reached on an error which advanced King to third. Nyman drove in King  to make it 4-3, Warriors, on a double to center field. With two outs, Andersen scored on a sacrifice fly by Dultz to tie the game at 4-4. 
 
The Gators took the lead on King's RBI infield single that drove in Sean Proni, who reached on a one-out double in SF State's eighth.
 
Eric Cendejas (3-4) recorded the loss in relief for Cal State Stanislaus pitching three innings, giving up three hits and one run while striking out two and walked one. 
 
Kyle Pfeiffer (Palo Cedro, California, Shasta College)(1-0) pitching six innings of relief en route to his first victory of the season. He gave up just two hits and one run while striking out three. Nic Banaugh (Novato, California, College of Marin) recorded his second save in just three days, pitching 0.2 scoreless innings and striking out one.

Nyman was 3-for-5 while driving in a run and scoring one and Dultz had two RBIs and two hits as did Proni.
 
SF State (17-20, 10-14 CCAA) will return to the diamond this Tuesday, April 6 at 2pm for a non-conference game at Sacramento against the Hornets of Sacramento State.
