Jensen Hits Two-Run Home Run To Earn Gators Split with Chico State

Heather Jensen Hit A Two-Run Game-Winning Home Run in the Gators' Doubleheader with Chico State
SAN FRANCISCO--- SF State freshman outfielder Heather Jensen (Sacramento, California, Del Campo)hit the first pitch she saw with two outs and Alyssa Esquibel (San Jose, California, Archbishop Mitty) on third over the center field fence to give the Gators' a 2-0 extra-inning victory over the Chico State Wildcats (19-16, 12-13 CCAA) in ten innings this afternoon in game two of the conference doubleheader at SF State's Softball Field. With the win, the Gators earn a split with the Wildcats as Chico State won game one 3-0.
 
Chico State won the opener 3-0 behind the pitching of Jessica McDermott (9-5), who struck out 10 batters and gave up two hits. Rachel Failla drove in the only run the Wildcats needed in their half of the third inning with a single to left field that drove in Christine Johnson. The Wildcats added solo runs in the sixth and seventh inning. 
 
Jenna Wermes had two of the Wildcats' five hits.   Ashley Jackson (Vallejo, California, St. Patrick's-St. Vincent)recorded the loss for the Gators, pitching six innings, giving up four hits and two runs (one earned) while striking out 8 and walking five.

In the night cap, the game remained scoreless until the Gator half of the tenth when Jensen's heroics happened. SF State (18-21, 11-11 CCAA) had just three hits one each by Jensen, Esquibel, and Karolyn Karolyn Gubbine (Richmond, California, Pinole Valley) 
 
Kacie McCarthy (8-9) recorded the loss for the Wildcats, pitching 9.2 innings, giving up three hits and two runs while striking out three and walking five. 
 
Jackson picked up the win in relief improving to 9-8. She struck out four batters and walked just one while giving up one hit. Marisa Ibarra (Hollister, California, San Benito ) started the game for SF State, pitching 8 innings of scoreless ball, striking out six and walking one and giving up just four hits.
 
SF State will return to the diamond tomorrow for another conference doubleheader tomorrow at noon with Chico State.
