Gator Duo Competes at CSU Stanislaus Twilights

Luisa Musika set a new career-best in the hammer throw on Friday at the CSU Stanislaus Twilight Qualifier.

TURLOCK, Calif. Throwers Luisa Musika (Milpitas, Calif., Milpitas HS) and Lindsay Machado (Placerville, Calif., El Dorado HS) represented the San Francisco State women's track and field squad on Friday evening when they competed at the Cal State Stanislaus Twilight Qualifier in the Gators' final outdoor meet of the 2010 regular season.

Musika finished second in the shot put with a toss of 41 feet, 9.75 inches and placed third in the discus throw with a distance of 149-00.  However, the SF State sophomore was unable to improve upon her NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks in those two events, which she recorded earlier in the year.  In addition, Musika took third in the hammer throw with a career-best heave of 158-06, which now ranks third in school history.

Meanwhile, Machado managed a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw (138-00) and was fifth in the discus (135-04).

Musika and fellow teammates Tyler Dalbey (Petaluma, Calif., Santa Rosa JC) and Brittany Garrett (Hoover, Ala., Univ. of Southern Mississippi) will now await word of possible at-large bids to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships when invitations are announced on Tuesday, May 18.  At the conclusion of Friday's meet, Musika was ranked 13th and 27th nationally in the discus and shot put, respectively, Dalbey was 12th in the 400-meter hurdles, while Garrett was 23rd in the 5,000-meter run.
