Gators Fall, 8-4 in Season Finale to No. 2 UCSD

Gators Recognized Its 12 Seniors Prior to Today's Game with UCSD
SAN FRANCISCO--- In both team's 2010 regular season finale, it was the visiting No. 2 UC San Diego Tritons defeating the SF State, 8-4, at Maloney Field on the campus of SF State. UC San Diego finishes the regular season with a 45-6 overall record and a 35-5 record in the CCAA while the Gators finish with a 22-32 record and a 15-25 record in the conference.
 
Evan Kehoe's two-out two-run double to right field gave the Tritons a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Kehoe's double scored both Vance Albitz and Brandon Gregorich who reached on a walk and a hit by pitch.  Kehoe then scored on a RBI single up the middle by Danny Susdorf. 
 
UC San Diego added another run in the second to increase its lead to 4-0. 
 
The Gators cut the Triton lead in half with a two-run second. Ryan Williams (Woodland, California, Yuba College) opened the inning with a lead-off single and scored on RBI double by Greg Kline (Las Vegas, Nevada, San Joaquin Delta College). Then with two-outs Ricky Del Zompo drove in Kline with a single up the middle to cut the UC San Diego lead to 4-2. 
 
The game remained 4-2, Tritons, until UC San Diego's sixth inning when the visitors scored three runs on just two hits to take a 7-2 lead.
 
The Gators would not go away as they scored one run in the seventh on Kline's fourth home run of the season, a solo shot to left field. They added another run in the eighth on a two-out RBI single by Kevin Dultz (Altadena, California, Glendale Community College)that scored Keith Garcia (Ventura, California, Oxnard College)to make it 7-4 Tritons.
 
UC San Diego added an insurance run in the ninth on a two-out single by Kyle Saul to increase its lead to 8-4.
 
Daniel Simmons retired the Gators in order in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the Tritons' 8-4 victory en route to his second save of the season. 
 
Guido Knudson (8-2) picked up the win, pitching 7 innings, giving up 6 hits and three runs while striking out 8. Simmons pitched the final 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, giving up no hits while striking out one and walking one. 
 
Kehoe, Susdorf, and Albitz all had two hits apiece to lead the Triton hitting attack. 
 
Kyle Pfeiffer (2-1) recorded the loss for the Gators. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 6 hits and 7 runs, striking out one and walking three. Nic Banaugh pitched the final three innings for the Gators, giving up two hits and one unearned run while striking out two and walking one.
 
Kline was 2-for-4 for the Gators while driving in two runs and scoring twice.
