LOS ANGELES--- Even though the visiting SF State Gators outshot the No. 1 raked Cal State LA Golden Eagles 12-9 including 7-2 in the first half, it was the hosts coming up on the right side of the scoreboard winning 1-0. The Golden Eagles (4-0, 3-0 CCAA)) scored with 11 minutes left in the first half, which ended up being the game-winning goal.
“I am very pleased with the way we played today, we took the needed steps in the right direction,” said SF State Head Coach Joe Hunter. “We had a goal called back, but we kept our composure just could not get the ball into the goal.”
Joe Davis from Cal State LA had the game's first shot on goal attempt in the 21st minute, but
Mike McNeill (Oakdale, California, Cal State Stanislaus)recorded one of his two saves of the day. The Gators came right back five minutes later, but the Golden Eagles' James Irwin stopped
Saman Assadi (Sacramento, California, California HS)shot attempt.
Then 9 minutes later is when the game's only goal came when Taylor Rivas connected on a header off a free kick from Marvin Sandoval and Brennan Broderson. SF State (2-3, 0-3 CCAA) had a chance to tie the game at 1-1, but
Tony Terrazas (Irvine, California, Cal State Fullerton)shot hit the post.
The game remained 1-0 Golden Eagles even though the Gators outshot their hosts 7-2, but done of the shots went into the net.
McNeill had two saves in goal for the Gators while James Irwin also had two saves in goal for Cal State LA.
SF State will return to the pitch this Sunday at 2pm, when the Gators travel to Carson for a CCAA match-up with the nationally ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros.
