Chalak Scores Twice in Gators' 2-2 Tie at No. 11 CSUDH

Sasha Chalak Accounted for both of the Gators' goals this afternoon for his 3rd and 4th of the season
CARSON--- Playing their second straight match against a top 15 team on the road, it was the visiting SF State Gators tying the No. 11 Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros 2-2 this afternoon at Toro Field in Carson. Sasha Chalak scoed twice for the Gators including the game-tying goal late in the first half.

“I am proud of the guys as they did not fold after going down 1-0, we came back and did not back down,” said SF State Head Coach Joe Hunter. “We made some positive steps this weekend against two nationally ranked teams,” added Hunter. “Cal State Dominguez Hills is a very good team and we came out with a 2-2 tie on the Toros' field.” “This was a learning process for us this weekend and I feel pretty good going into next week.”

The Toros (4-0-2, 3-0-1 CCAA) took a 1-0 lead as Greg Piechota connected for the match's first goal as connected off a pass from Andrea Turoldo to Miguel Vargas that he shot into the top left side of the net. SF State tied the match, eight minutes later, on the first of two goals off the foot of Sasha Chalak (Concord, California, Acalanes). The Gator sophomore connected on a header off a throw-in from Malcolm Linton (Pasadena, California, Pasadena City College).

Piechota connected for his second goal of the match off a corner kick by Austin Nate with 15 minutes left in the first half. With 17 seconds left in the first stanza, the Toros were called for a penalty as Jorge Calderon, Jr. (Vista, California, Palomar College). was pulled down from behind. Chalak then connected for his team high fourth goal on a penalty kick and the game-tying goal to send the match tied at two going into the half.

SF State (2-3-1, 0-3-1 CCAA) had a chance to break the tie in the 73rd minute, but Chalak's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Toros' Marcus Dickerson. Then six minutes later, Wes Moar (Alamo, California, DeLaSalle HS)attempt was blocked. Joran Hatanka's attempt to give the Toros was blocked with less than 35 seconds to go in regulation.

In the first overtime period, the Toros had two chances to win the game but the Gators' Mike McNeill (Oakdale, California, Cal State Stanislaus)recorded two of his six saves by stopping Piechota's and Scott Locker's attempt for the golden goal in the 94th minute. In the second overtime, Billy Gutierrez's shot went wide right in the 105th for the Toros as the game ended in a two all double overtime tie.

Cal State Dominguez Hills out-shot the Gators 21-8 while the Toros' Dickerson had two saves in goal for the host team.

SF State will return home this Friday, September 17 at 12:30pm, when the Gators host Cal State East Bay in a conference match at Cox Stadium.
