Box Score SAN FRANCISCO--- Ferid Celosmanovic connected on a corner kick with 30 minutes left in the match to give the visiting Chico State Wildcats a 1-0 victory over the SF State Gators. Celosmanovic curved past the Gators'
Eric Scolman into the right side of the net for what proved to be the game-winning goal of the match.
“I am very pleased with our effort this afternoon,” said SF State Head Coach Joe Hunter. “We just have to keep working hard and we will catch a lucky break sooner than later.”
The match was evenly played as the Gators (4-7-2, 3-7-1 CCAA) outshot Chico State 13-11 including 7-5 in the first half. Each team recorded five shots on goal as each goalkeeper each had five saves in SF State's
Eric Scolman and the Wildcats' Sam Evans.
Chico State (7-3-3, 6-3-2 CCAA) had the match's first shot on goal attempt as
Eric Scolman stopped the Wildcats' Nick Tedrow's shot in the 10
th minute. Six minutes later, Chris Akwaja's attempt to give the Wildcats the lead was also stopped by Scolman.
The Gators went on the attack after Akwaja's shot, but
Edgar Villagrana's attempt went wide left. SF State had another chance to take the lead late in the half, but Sam Evans stopped L. Fidel Medina's attempt to send the game into the half with a scoreless tie.
SF State came out strong in the second half as
Kenny Kim's shot was stopped by Evans eight minutes into the new stanza.
Chico State came right back and took the lead in the 60
th minute when Celosmanovic connected on his 7
th goal of the season off the corner kick.
The Gators had four chances in the final 10 minutes to tie the game either go wide right or stopped by the Wildcats' Evans including
Robert Gilbert's attempt with 9 minutes to go in the match as the visitors held on for the 1-0 victory.
SF State will return to the pitch on Sunday at 11:30am, when the Gators host Cal State Stanislaus. The Warriors lost at Cal Poly Pomona this afternoon 3-0.

Andrew Chansky,
