Box Score SAN FRANCISCO --- The No. 15 Cal State LA Golden Eagles made the most of their scoring opportunities in their 3-0 win over the SF State Gators. The Gators outshot their visitors 21-16 and also recorded more corner kicks 11-2.
"We were outplayed this weekend and I am very disappointed with our efforts," said SF State Head Coach
Joe Hunter. "We will look to get back on the winning track at Cal State East Bay this Friday."
Saman Assadi went to put the Gators on top in the third minute of the match, but his shot attempt went high. Cal State LA (6-1-3, 4-1-3 CCAA) took the lead when Jason Swope's shot went over
Eric Scolman's head as he connected on a ball from Taylor Riva in the 24
th minute.
The Gators came right back two minutes later, but
Jose Monje's attempt to tie the game went wide left.
SF State (4-4-2, 3-4-1 CCAA) had another chance to tie the game in the first half, but
Edgar Villagrana's attempt hit the crossbar in the 37
th minute. Three minutes later,
Kenny Kim's shot went wide left and the same with L. Fidel Medina's attempt in the 43
rd minute to send the game into the half with Cal State LA leading 1-0.
Cal State LA doubled its lead at the 45:49 mark as Jordan Payne connected on a cross from Antti Arvola.
With 30 minute left in the match, Robert Gilber's attempt to cut the Golden Eagle lead in half was stopped by Waleed Cassis. SF State had three more chances in the next two minutes to cut into the visitor's lead, but Cassis stopped two of them and one went wide right.
Swope then sealed the match with five minutes left on the clock, when he connected on his second goal of the match and fifth of the season on a breakaway to give the Golden Eagles the 3-0 victory.
SF State will return to the pitch this Friday, October 7 at 7pm, when the Gators travel to Hayward for a conference match with Cal State East Bay.
