Cal State LA Blanks Gators, 3-0

Jose Vitela Recorded Two of the Gators' 9 Shot Attempts This Evening in Los Angeles
Box Score LOS ANGELES---- The duo of Rosario Bras and Marvin Sandoval keyed the Cal State LA Golden Eagles' 3-0 victory over the visiting SF State Gators at Jesse Owens Track Stadium on the campus of Cal State LA this afternoon.  Bras scored two of the Golden Eagles' goals while Sandoval recorded two assists.
 
“Cal State LA is a good team that worked harder than us this afternoon and it showed with its 3-0 victory,” said SF State Head Coach Joe Hunter.  “We need to get back to how we played in our 1-0 win over Cal State Stanislaus last Sunday.”
 
The Golden Eagles (9-1-5, 7-1-5 CCAA) took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute as Derek Faulkner connected on pass from inside the box from Timo Schwar.  The Gators looked to tie the game in the 21st minute but Robert Gilbert's shot was stopped by the Golden Eagles' Waleed Cassis. 
 
The Gators had another chance to tie the game in the 23rd minute, but Cassis stopped Malcolm Linton's shot on goal attempt. 
 
Then with 17 minutes left in the half, the Golden Eagles doubled their lead as Rosario Bras connected on his first goal of the match off a ball from Taylor Rivas and Marvin Sandoval. 
 
The match remained 2-0 Cal State LA headed into the half even though the Gators outshot their hosts 7-5 including 3-2 in shot on goal attempts.
 
Cal State LA, who is first in the CCAA South Division and fifth in the first NCAA Division II West Region rankings, came out firing in the first half but the Gators' Eric Scolman stopped Jordan Payne's shot in the 46th minute. 
 
The Golden Eagles' defense held the Gators' offense abet until the 72nd minute when Cassis preserved the shutout stopping Antonio Ugarte's shot.
 
Cal State LA then sealed the win when Bras scored off a corner kick from Jason Swope off a pass from Sandoval to give the hosts a 3-0 victory with just six minutes left in regulation.
 
Each team recorded 9 shot attempts including four shot on goal attempts.  Cal State LA recorded more corner kicks than the Gators, 5-3 while SF State was called for offsides seven times this afternoon. 
 
SF State (5-8-2, 4-8-1 CCAA) will return to the pitch this Sunday afternoon at 2pm, when the Gators travel to Carson for another CCAA match this time with Cal State Dominguez Hills.  The Gators lost to the Toros 1-0 on September 30 in San Francisco. The Toros played to a 1-1 tie with Cal Poly Pomona this evening at home.
