Box Score SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.--- Cal State San Bernardino's Julian Garcia scored the game-winner for the Coyotes, 1:41 into the second overtime period to give the hosts the 2-1 double overtime victory over the SF State Gators in both team's regular season finale.
Both teams played a scoreless first 45 minutes of this afternoon's match in which there were just 8 shot attempts including just one shot on goal attempt. Julio Ayala went to the put the Coyotes on the board early in the second minute of the match, but the Gators'
Thomas Comer stopped the scoring attempt.
With less than a minute left in the first half,
Luis Mendoza's shot went high to send the match into the half scoreless.
Hayden Roberts recorded the first shot on goal attempt for SF State (5-11-2, 4-11-2 CCAA) in the 51st minute, which was stopped by the Coyotes' Ron Shvero.
Cal State San Bernardino took a 1-0 lead, when Daniel Lopez slipped through the Gators' defense off a ball from Marco Martinez in the 55
th minute.
The Coyotes (7-9-2, 4-9-2 CCAA) did not hang onto to the lead long as
Jose Vitela connected off a missed shot by
Edgar Villagrana to tie the game at 1-1 in the 60
th minute. This was Vitela's third goal of the season for the Gators.
The Gators held on strong in the final 30 minutes as they recorded four saves including three by Comer. SF State's senior goalkeeper came up big in the final minutes as he stopped Gabriel Quintero's attempt to send the match into overtime.
In the first overtime, Comer stopped Lee Nishanian's header in the first minute. The Gators then went on the attack as
Edgar Villagrana's attempt was blocked in the 92
nd minute,
Luis Mendoza's shot went wide in the 96
th minute and
Antonio Ugarte's shot went high in the 98
th minute. Cal State San Bernardino only had one other shot attempt and that came in the 99
th minute as Brett Faggioni's attempt went wide.
SF State's
Saman Assadi's shot in the second overtime went high in the first minute of the second 10 minute double overtime period.
Then at the 101:41 mark of the match, the Gators were called for a foul and Garcia connected on the penalty kick to give the hosts the 1-0 win.
Comer finished with six saves for the Gators while Shviro had one in goal for Cal State San Bernardino.
