CSUSB's Streets, Dy Combine For 50 Points in Coyotes' Win Over Gators

Angela Van Sickel Tied Her Season High in Scoring With 19 Points to Lead the Way for SF State at CSUSB
Box Score SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.---  The duo of Angela Streets and Eliza Dy combined for 50 points in the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes 80-54 victory over the visiting SF State Gators this evening at Coussoulis Arena in San Bernardino.  Sophomore guard Angela Van Sickel paced the Gators tying her career high with 19 points.

"I am extremely proud of how Angela (Van Sickel) is playing right now," said SF State Head Coach Dr. Joaquin Wallace.  "I am hopefuly we can regroup for our next couple of games starting on Jan. 5 against CSUMB."
 
Angela Streets recorded a double-double for the Coyotes (3-7, 2-4 CCAA) as she scored 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.  She shot 7-for-17 from the field including knocking down four of her 10 three-point field attempts.  Streets also went 7-for-8 from the charity stripe while dishing out three assists.  Dy added 25 points for the hosts while connecting on 9 of her 15 shot attempts from the field including draining two of her three attempts from three-point land.  She also was five for six from the free throw line. 
 
Van Sickel was 6-for-15 from the field including going 3-for-7 from three-point land while shooting four-for-six from the charity stripe.  She also dished out four assists while junior transfer Charnay Bell added 9 points off the bench for the Gators, which tied her season high in points.
 
SF State (2-9, 1-4 CCAA) scored the first five points of the game as Van Sickel drained a three and Lauren Varney connected on two free throws.  Varney's jumper at the 16:33 mark gave the Gators a 10-5 lead, but the Coyotes outscored SF State 10-4 in the next four minutes to take their first lead of the game, 15-14.
 
Cal State San Bernardino continued to build on its lead as Dy's three as the horn sounded gave the hosts their largest lead of the half heading into the locker room, 46-32.
 
SF State came out aggressive in the early part of the second half as the Gators went on a 12-2 run to cut the Coyote lead to 48-44 in the first five minutes of the new stanza as Varney capped that run going 1-for-2 from the line.
 
Cal State San Bernardino outscored the Gators 18-6 in the next five minutes to take a 66-50 lead.  The hosts then cruised to an 80-54 victory as they held their visitors to just four points in the final nine minutes of the game.
 
The Coyotes held the Gators to just 34% shooting from the field including a meager 27% in the second half.  They shot 46% from the field themselves while connecting on 50% of their attempts in the second half.  Cal State San Bernardino also held the advantage on the boards, 42-30.  The Gators' bench did outscore the Coyotes' non-starters 20-10 lead by Bell's 9 points.
 
SF State will return home to the Swamp this Friday, January 5 at 5:30pm for a CCAA showdown with defending conference champion Cal State Monterey Bay.   The Otters are currently 8-1 overall and 5-0 in the CCAA after defeating Cal State East Bay 68-56 in Hayward, Calif., this evening.
