CARSON, Calif.--- SF State Gators women's basketball team won their third straight game in a row and kept their CCAA Basketball Championship Tournament bid alive as they defeated the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros 62-47 in a CCAA match-up at the Torodome in Carson. The Gators held the Toros (3-19, 3-15 CCAA) to just 27% shooting from the field while
Nicole Hicks had a career high 18 points to lead SF State.
"We are beginning to figure out how to win games,' said SF State Head Coach Joaquin Wallace. 'As a team we are fighting to play in the conference tournament as we hae to take one play and game at a time.'
The Gators jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game, but the Toros outscored the visitors 10-5 in the next four minutes to take a 12-11 lead on two free throws by Ashley Hudson. SF State ended the half outscoring the Toros 19-11 to take a 30-23 lead into the locker room at the half.
SF State came out in the second half and scored the first four points to take 34-23 lead, a lead the Gators would not relinquish as they cruised to a 62-47 victory.
Dominique Hunter (San Francisco, California, Gateway) recorded her 14th double-double as she scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
Michaela Booker (Union City,California, James Logan High School) chipped in 11 and
Sherika Miller (San Diego, California, West Hills HS) added 10 points for the Gators, who improved to 4-18 overall and 4-14 in the CCAA.
Tiffany Smith had 11 points of the bench to lead the way for the Toros.
The Gators are now in 9th place, one game behind Sonoma State who holds the final spot for the 2010-11 CCAA Basketball Championships. The Seawolves lost 55-48 at Cal Poly Pomona this evening.
SF State will begin a season ending four-game homestand this Friday, February 18th at 5:30pm as the Gators host Humboldt State.
