LOS ANGELES--- After taking game one 11-4 from the Gators on Saturday afternoon, it was the Cal State LA Golden Eagles (9-3, 4-0 CCAA) winning the final three games 7-3, 7-4, and 10-1 to sweep the series from SF State. The Gators fall to 5-5 overall and 0-4 in the CCAA.
The two teams continued the suspended the game from yesterday with Cal State LA leading 6-0 in the fifth. The Golden Eagles added an insurance run in the sixth on a two-out double by Brian Moon, who finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and a double and triple.
SF State got on the board with a three run seventh.
Ben Mielke (Arcata, California, Shasta College) opened up the inning wiht a walk and advanced to to third on a single by
Thomas Wood (Reno, Nevada, College of San Mateo). Then with two outs,
Devon King (San Diego, San Francisco City College) was hit by a pitch to load the bases for
Matt Quintero (San Gabriel, California, University of San Francisco). Quintero reached on an error which scored Mielke to score the Gators' first run.
Trevor Pasiecznik (San Mateo, California, College of San Mateo) then drove in both Wood and King wiht a two-out two-run single to cut the host's lead to 7-3 going into the the last two and a third innings.
Wood finished the suspended game going 2-for-5 scoring run and stealing his team leading fourth base. Pascieznik also had two hits while driving in two runs. Manny Acosta and Duran each had two hits for the hosts.
The Golden Eagles' Kamakani Usui and Daniel Durn shut the Gators in the final three innings as they held on for the 7-3 win.
David Arrendondo (1-0) picked up the win, pitching 5 scoreless innings, giving up four hits and walking one.
Branden Petrangelo (Oakley, California, University of Nevada-Reno)fell to 2-1 for the Gators as he suffered the loss.
In the second game of the day, the Gators took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with Wood hitting a single to lead off the game. He advanced to second on a sacrifice by
Dustin Wold (Oakley, California, Diablo Valley College) and went to third on a single by
Chris Schindler (San Mateo, California, College of San Mateo).
Michael Sanchez (Citrus Heights, California, Sacramento City College) then drove in both Wood and Schindler on a two-run double.
SF State took a 3-0 lead in the third when Sanchez opened the inning with a lead-off double and later scored on a ground out by
Kevin Dultz (Altadena, California, Glendale Community College). The Gators added another run in the fifth as Dultz drove in Schindler.
Cal State LA finally got on the board in the Golden Eagles' half of the fifth on a two-out double by Duran that scored Cliff Quick. They then ruined
Nic Banaugh (Novato, California, College of Marin)day as they scored five runs on six hits and two errors to take a 6-4 lead in the bottom of hte sixth. Cal State LA added an insurance run in the eighth on Joe Park's two-out single.
Banaugh (2-1) took the loss while Jacob Valenzuela (3-0) picked up the win for Cal State LA. He pitched 2.1 innings of relief, giving up one hit and walking one. Thomas Landeros recorded his fourth save, pitching two scoreless innings, walking one, and striking out one.
Sanchez finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Dultz also drove in two runs.
Cal State LA took a 3-0 lead in the night cap in the third as Park's two-run triple was the big hit. SF State cut the Golden Eagles to 3-1 as
Tyler Tulowitzki (Santa Clara, California, San Jose City College)scored on a two-out single by
Andrew Suvunnachuen (San Francisco, California, College of San Mateo).
The Golden Eagles broke the game oen with a four-run third and added three more runs in the fourth on a bases clearing two-out double by Acosta.
AJ Comaskey (Fresno, California, West Hills Community College) fell to 0-1, but Jeff Clegg came on in relief for the Gators, pitching two scoreless innings striking out two.
The Gators will take next week off and will return to the diamond for a non-conference game on Tuesday, March 1st in Reno, Nev., against the University of Nevada Wolf Pack. SF State will return to CCAA action for a four-game series in La Jolla, Calif., against No. 1 UC San Diego beginning with a single game on March 4 at 6pm.
