SAN FRANCISCO--- The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros (9-5, 5-5 CCAA) swept this afternoon's CCAA doubleheader from the SF State Gators at SFSU's Softball Field, 8-2 and 3-0. The Toros won game one used an 8-run 6th inning while Stephanie Jimenez (6-2) pitched a two-hit complete game shutout in the nightcap.
Cal State Dominguez Hills scored 8 runs in the top of the sixth inning to key the Toros' come-from-behind 8-2 game one victory over the SF State Gators.
Ashley Jackson picked up the loss while Lauren Harper recorded the win.
Kendra Wood's two-out single down the left field line scored
Kylie Herrada wih the game's first run in the Gator third inning. Herrada reached on a two-out double.
The score remained 1-0 until the Toro sixth and that is when they erupted for an 8-run inning on just four hits. Emiley McEwen's two-out grand slam home run capped the visitors' big inning.
SF State (3-12, 1-9 CCAA) scored the game's final run in the bottom of the seventh as Herrada scored after reaching base on an one-out triple. She finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored for the Gators.
McEwen led the Toros' hitters going 2-for-3 with four RBIs.
Harper improved to 3-3, going 7 innings, giving up six hits and two runs while striking out four and walking three. Jackson fell to 1-6 for the Gators.
In the night cap, the Toros scored one run each in the second, third, and fourth inning as they took game two 3-0.
Destiney Ruiz scored the only run that Jimenez needed in the Toros' half of the second inning. She reached base on an one-out double to left center and scored when Krista Gould reached on a two-out error by the Gators.
Ruiz finished the game 2-for-4 while Veronica Vazquez was 3-for-3 with a run scored, a RBI, and two doubles.
Jimenez had a no-hitter until the Gator fourth, when
Kelsey Murakami reached on a lead-off single. The other Gator hit came off the bat of
Lea Cardenas in the bottom of the fifth.
Marissa Ibarra (0-4) took the loss for SF State, pitching 7 innings, giving up six hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out four and walking two.
The two teams will finish off this weekend's four-game series tomorrow morning with a 11am starting doubleheader at SF State's Softball Field.
