No. 28 Seawolves Sweep Gators

Trevor Pasiecznik went 2-for-4 with two runs scored in the first game Saturday at Sonoma State.
ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – No. 28 Sonoma State finished with 11 hits, including a two-run homer by O'Koyea Dickson, to highlight a 6-4 win over visiting San Francisco State in the first game of a California Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader at Seawolf Diamond. Then in night cap, Connor Smith and Phil Liniger combined on four-hit shutout to key the Seawolves 5-0 win over SF State to complete the sweep.

SSU (26-11, 19-11 CCAA) grabbed a 2-0 lead with one out in the bottom of the first inning when Dickson smacked the first pitch over the left field fence, knocking in Kevin Cramer, who previously drew a base on balls.

The Gators (12-27, 7-24 CCAA) came back to tie the score in the top of the second when Kevin Dultz's sacrifice fly plated Andrew Suvunnachuen, while Trevor Pasiecznik touched home on Thomas Wood's single to right center.

After the Seawolves tallied a pair of markers in the third on RBI singles by Alex Todd and Kyle Jones, SF State pushed across a run in the sixth when Ivan Otsuka raced home from third on Suvunnachuen's grounder to short, narrowing the gap to 4-3. Otsuka earlier led off with a walk and advanced on a Ben Mielke single and Tyler Tulowitzki's sacrifice bunt.

The visitors could draw no closer, however, as SSU added two insurance runs in the bottom of the frame on an RBI groundout by Ryan Morales, while Steven Filippi drove in Randy Wells with a single down the left field line.

Seawolf starter Kendall Davis (2-3) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks in six innings to earn the victory, while Gator hurler Branden Petrangelo (2-6) took the loss after giving up all six runs on nine hits and two walks, before yielding to A.J. Comaskey to begin the seventh.

SF State put two runners aboard with one out in the eighth, but Seawolf reliever Ian Ocon induced a double-play grounder to get out of the jam. SF State threatened once again in the ninth as Pasiecznik and Dultz hit consecutive singles, while Wood drew a walk to load the bases. However, Ocon fought himself off the ropes with minimal damage, inducing a double play, which scored Pasiecznik, before recording a strikeout to escape with his fourth save of the year.

Dickson, Todd, Jones and Morales had two hits each for SSU, while Pasiecznik and Mielke finished with two apiece for the Gators.

In the night cap, the Seawolves took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Todd opened the inning with a lead-off double. He advanced to third on a single by Jones and scored on a fielder's choice by Randy Wells. Then with two outs, Justin Serrao singled home Jones with the inning's second run.

They added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning capped by a two-run home run by Kevin Cramer to increase Sonoma State lead to 5-0.

Smith (2-1) pitched four innings, giving up two hits while striking out three and walking three. Liniger recorded his first save of the year, pitching three scoreless innings, giving up two hits and striking out two.

Jones had three of the Seawolves' 10 hits.

Chris Schindler was 2-for-3 for the Gators.
