Two-Run Eighth Inning Keys Gators 5-4 Come-From-Behind Win over No. 28 SSU

Will Klein Went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs Including Delivering the Game-Winner in SF State's 5-4 Win over the No. 28 Seawolves
SAN FRANCISCOWill Klein hit a two-out run scoring single in the bottom of the eighth inning to key the SF State's Gators' 5-4 come-from-behind victory over the visiting No. 28 Sonoma State Seawolves (26-12, 19-12 CCAA). Klein finished the day 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Reliever Jeff Clegg (2-3) picked up the win, pitching three scoreless innings of relief.

Sonoma State scored the game's first run in the top of the second inning as Randy Wells run scoring single to right field that drove in Alex Todd. Todd reached base on a lead-off single and advanced to second on a single by Kyle Jones and then scored on the one-out single by Wells. The Seawolves had a chance to score more in the inning but Gator starter, Nic Banaugh, induced Steven Filippi to ground into a double play with the bases loaded.

SF State came back and tied in the bottom of the second inning. Chris Schindler walked with one out and advanced to second on a two-out single to left field by Nic Gauldin. Klein then tied the game with a single to left field on a two-two count to score Schindler.

Klein's two-out run scoring single in the Gator fourth gave the hosts a 2-1 lead. Kevin Dultz led off the inning reaching on an error and advanced second on a sacrifice by Schindler. He went to third on a ground out by Thomas Wood. Gauldin walked to set the table for Klein who delivered with a run scoring single to center field.

Sonoma State retook the lead with a three-run sixth inning. The Seawolves started the inning with back-to-back-to back singles by Kevin Cramer, O'Koyea Dickson, and Todd. Cramer scored on a sacrifice fly by Jones to tie the game at two, which both Dickson and Todd advanced a base. Dickson scored the go-ahead run on a ground out by Kyle Cerrudo. With two outs, Ryan Morales drove in Todd with an infield single.

The score remained 4-3 Sonoma State until the bottom of the eighth inning. Trevor Pasiecznik, who finished 2-for-4, led off the inning with a single. Dustin Wold came in and pinch ran for Pasiecznik. Dultz then was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second with no outs. Schindler loaded the bases on a bunt single. Wood tied the game on a sacrifice fly to right field that drove in Wold.

With two outs, Klein drove in the game-winning run in Dultz on a single to center field. Klein finished the day 3-for-4 with three RBIs while Dultz and Schindler each scored twice.

Banaugh started the game for the Gators (13-27, 8-24 CCAA), pitching six innings, giving up four runs and striking out four while walking two.

Joey Van Cleave (2-1) recorded the loss for the Seawolves, pitching two innings of relief, giving up two hits and three runs and striking out one.

SF State will return to the diamond this Tuesday, April 19 at 1pm when they host the Cal Baptist Lancers, who are fourth in the nation in NAIA, at Maloney Field.
