The loss spoiled a solid outing by Gator starter Brandon Petrangelo, who pitched 8 innings, giving up 8 hits and four runs while striking out 8 and walking one. This was the Gators' ninth loss by just one-run.

Cal Poly Pomona (21-11, 14-11 CCAA) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning as Tyson Edwards opened the inning with a double to left field and scored on a two-out triple down the right field line by Ryan Goodman. Still with two outs, Mike Santora drove in Goodman with a single up the middle.

The Gators tied the game in the fifth inning as Chris Schindler had a lead-off single and advanced to third on a two-base error by the Broncos. SF State (11-21, 6-19 CCAA) took the lead with a two-run sixth inning. Andrew Suvunnachuen led off the inning with a single and advanced to third when Schindler reached on an error. The Broncos then attempted to stop a double steal by the Gators with the errant throw going all the way in center field with both Suvunnachuen and Schindler scoring on to give the Gators a 4-2 lead.

The Broncos cut into the Gator lead in the top of the seventh as Jenzen Torres doubled to lead off the inning and later scored on a two-out double to right center by Stephen Gonzalez

SF State increased its lead back to two runs (5-3) as Klein doubled home Schindler with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Schindler reached base on a two-out single and then stole his second base of the season.

Cal Poly Pomona cut the Gator lead to 5-4 in its half of the eighth when Jordan Whitman's fielder's choice scored Goodman, who walked to lead off the inning. He advanced to second on a bunt single by Santora and went to third on a foul fly ball to the Gators' Thomas Wood
Branden Petrangelo

The Broncos then took the lead in the top of the ninth inning as they scored two runs on three hits. Chris Miller led off the inning with a single to left field and went to third on a single by Edwards. Edwards advanced to second on a wild pitch. Then with one out and a full count, Tovalin drove in both Miller and Edwards with the tying and game-winning run.

SF State had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth inning as Tulowitzki singled with one out and went to second when Kevin Dultz walked. Matt Quintero reached on a fielder's choice. Michael Parker (1-1) induced the final Gator to ground out to the Bronco shortstop.

Parker pitched two scoreless innings of one-hit ball while walking just one for the Broncos. Santora and Edwards each had two hits for the visitors and scored twice.
