Toros Hold On To Defeat Gators, 1-0

Kenny Kim Had Two Shot Attempts Including One On-Goal In the Gators' 1-0 Loss
Box Score  SAN FRANCISCO --- Cal State Dominguez Hills' Connor Brandt scored an unassisted goal at the 19:54 mark of the first half to key the Toros' 1-0 win over the host, SF State Gators.  With the win, the Toros (6-2-1, 4-2-1 CCAA) snap the Gators' three-game winning streak.

“When you do not show up with intensity at this level in this conference, you are going to lose,” said SF State Head Coach Joe Hunter.  “Hopefully, this is a hard lesson we can learn from.”

The Gators (4-3-2, 3-3-1 CCAA) had a couple of chances to take a lead early in the game, but they could not get the ball in the net.  Sasha Chalak had his shot blocked in the four minute mark and then the Toros' Marcus Dickerson recorded one of his three saves as he stopped Jose Vitela's attempt eight seconds later.  Three seconds later, Edgar Villagrana's attempt hit the post.

The Toros went on the attack in the fifth minute, but Miguel Vasquez's shot was blocked. SF State's Eric Scolman then stopped Josh Walker's attempt to give the Toros the lead in the 17th minute.  That is when Brandt connected on his first goal at the 19:54 mark as his shot went past Scolman into the right side of the net to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Brandt had a chance to double the Toro advantage, but Scolman had one of his three saves on the afternoon to send the game into the second half with the visitors leading 1-0.

SF State had two chances early in the second half to tie the game at one a piece, but Kenny Kim's shot was blocked and Jose Monje's shot also was blocked.

The rest of the half was played evenly until eight seconds left in regulation, when Dickerson stopped Antonio Ugarte's shot on goal attempt to preserve the 1-0 Toro victory.

The Toros and SF State each recorded 13 shot attempts with the visitors recording four shot on goal attempts to the Gators' three.  Cal State Dominguez Hills also had six corner kicks to its hosts four.

The Gators will look to get back on the winning track this Sunday at 11:30am, when they host No. 15 Cal State LA at Cox Stadium.
