Golden Eagles Rebound Past Gators

Casey James Had a Season High 13 Points for the Gators at CSULA
Box Score  LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s Carl Hoffman recorded a double-double in the Golden Eagles' 82-71 victory over the visiting SF State Gators this evening at the Eagles' Nest at BJKSC in Los Angeles.  Hoffman scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the hosts improved to 11-4 overall and 7-4 in the CCAA. 
 
“We got hammered on the glass this evening,” said SF State Head Coach Paul Trevor.  “We had a good first half and competed at a high level and I was pleased with the performance of Max Fodor tonight.”
 
Three Gators scored in double figures led by junior Nefi Perdomo's 19 points.  Also scoring in double figures were sophomores Max Fodor and Casey James who both registered career nights off the bench for the Gators.  Fodor had 14 points while James added 13 points for SF State, who fall to 4-13 overall and 2-9 in the CCAA.  The Gators had only a season low 8 turnovers for the game.
 
Also recording a double-double for Cal State L.A. was Leland Jones who scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.  Ryan Wetherell chipped in 16 points and Chris Robinson added 11 points for the hosts.  The Golden Eagles out-rebounded SF State 47-36. 
 
The first half saw eight ties in the first 13 minutes with the last one coming when the Gators' Casey James tied the game at 25-25 on a lay-up at the 7:29 mark.  The Golden Eagles went on an 11-4 run after that to take a 36-29 lead with 4:08 to go in the half. 
 
The Gators came back as they cut the deficit to just one, 38-37 on a jumper by James Albright with 2:39 left on the clock in the first stanza. 
 
Cal State LA took a 44-41 lead with 16 seconds left, but Daniel Trammel's lay-up as the buzzer sounded sent the Gators into the locker room just down by 44-43.
 
The Golden Eagles came out strong in the first six minutes on the second half and took a 58-48 lead.  SF State would not go away as they cut the lead to just 58-54 on two made free throws by Nefi Perdomo with a little under 12 minutes on the clock.
 
Once again, Cal State L.A. built a double digit led as Quinton Jenkins' jumper with 9:02 to go capped a 10-0 run by the hosts as they took a 65-54 lead.
 
SF State cut Golden Eagles' lead to 70-65 as the Gators went on an 11-0 run with 5:05 left in regulation. 
 
Cal State LA finished the game outscoring the Gators 12-6 going 8-for-8 from the charity stripe to seal the 82-71 CCAA victory.
 
The Gators will end their season long five-game road trip tomorrow evening in Carson, Calif., for a 7:30pm scheduled conference game with Cal State Dominguez Hills.  The Toros who defeated No. 20 Cal Poly Pomona 64-59 this evening at the Toro Dome.
