SAN FRANCISCO – In both team's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) opener, it was the SF State Gators holding off the visiting Sonoma State Seawolves 63-61 at the Swamp on SF State's campus.
Michaela Booker paced the Gators with a season high 19 points off the bench.

SF State (2-1, 1-0 CCAA) held its visitors to just 38% shooting from the field including 30% in the first half while forcing 15 turnovers. Besides Booker's 19 points,
Nicole Hicks added 12 points and
Angela Van Sickel chipped in 10 points for the hosts.
The Gators out-rebounded Sonoma State (0-2, 0-1 CCAA) 42-34 led by
Lauren Varney's season high 12 boards. Varney also scored 6 points and recorded four of SF State's 12 steals.
The hosts took a 12-7 lead in the first eight minutes of the game, but the Seawolves went on a 5-0 run to tie the game at 12-12 on Taylor Acosta's old-fashioned three-point play the 10:55 mark.
Sonoma State took a 15-14 lead on three by Acosta with 9:32 to go in the half, but the Gators outscored their guests 14-4 in the next five minutes to take a 28-19 lead (their largest of the half).
The Seawolves cut their hosts lead to 31-26 on a Taylor Vigil jumper at the end of the half.
Nicole Hicks' jumper in the first three minutes of the second stanza increased the Gators' lead to 36-29.
Sonoma State would not go away as the Seawolves cut their deficit to 42-40 on two made free throws by Bronte Sheahan at the 12:38 mark.
The Gators followed that with a 9-4 run as Booker scored six of the hosts' nine points to give them a 51-44 lead with 8:47 to go in the game. They increased that lead to 57-46 on a three by Van Sickel with a little less than seven minutes left in regulation.
The visitors went on a 15-4 run of their own to tie the game at 61-61 on a Vigil jumper with 90 seconds left on the clock.
On the Gators' next possession,
Desiree Collins hit a jumper off an assist from
Michaela Booker to give the hosts a 63-61 lead with 1:21 showing on the game clock.
The Gators' defense came up big in the final minute as they forced Sonoma State to three missed shots to hang on for the 63-61 victory.
Taylor Vigil paced Sonoma State with 12 points and Alysa Ito and Elizabeth Day each chipped in 8 points.
“I am sure our game on Saturday is going to be just as physical,” added Wallace.
The two teams will return to the court this Saturday, November 24 as they face each other in Rohnert Park, Calif., with a scheduled 2pm tip-off at the Wolves' Den on Sonoma State's campus.
