Sonoma State Splits Season Series With Gators

Angela Van Sickel Had 16 Points in the Gators' 70-60 Loss at Sonoma State This Afternoon
Box Score  ROHNERT PARK, Calif.— In their second game against each other in five days, it was the Sonoma State Seawolves defeating the visiting SF State Gators to split the season series between the two teams.  The Seawolves went 9-for-10 from the charity stripe in the final minute of the game to seal the conference victory at The Wolves' Den. 

"A tough loss on the road against a quality Sonoma state team," said SF State head coach Dr. Joaquin Wallace.  "Overall, both teams achieved a win on their home court, which is always a plus." "Started sluggish In the first half which placed us In an uphill grind; however, we had our chance to take the lead twice, in the second half," added Wallace.  

The Seawolves scored five of the past six points of the game and never looked back.  Elizabeth Day's lay-up at the 13:37 mark of the first half gave the hosts a 10-3 lead. 
 
The Gators outscored their hosts 9-5 in the next six minutes and cut the lead to 15-12 on a Lauren Varney jumper,  but Sonoma State came right back and finished the half outscoring SF State 11-7 to take a 26-19 lead into the locker room at the half.
 
Vigil scored the Seawolves' first four points of the second half to increase their lead to 30-19. 
 
SF State came right back and outscored Sonoma State 12-1 in the next five minutes to cut the deficit to 32-31 capped by a Michaela Booker lay-up. 
 
Sonoma State increased its lead back to double digits, 55-43, in the next 10 minutes to take a 55-43 lead with 6:39 left on the clock. 
 
The visitors would not go away as they cut their deficit to 62-58 with 32 seconds left in the game on a three by Angela Van Sickel, but the Seawolves connected on all 10 of their free throw attempts to secure the 70-60 victory.
 
Michaela Booker and Angela Van Sickel each had 16 points to lead the way for SF State while Nicole Hicks added 11 points.
 
SF State (2-2, 1-1 CCAA) will return home next week for a pair of CCAA games at The Swamp.  The Gators will host Cal State East Bay this Friday, Nov. 30 at 5:30 pm PST.  Then on Saturday, Dec. 1, the Otters of Cal St. Monterey Bay will come to town for a scheduled 5:30pm tip-off against the Gators.
