No.17 FPU Takes Game One, 6-1

Ivan Otsuka Had One of the Gators' Three Hits
Box Score FRESNO, Calif.---  Fresno Pacific's Chris Herrera threw seven no-hit innings with 10 strikeouts before being replaced in the 8th inning and Michael Vaughn went 3-for-4 with four RBI and a home run to lead the Sunbirds (6-2) to a home victory. SF State drops to 1-1 on the season. The two teams play a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at 11 am.

The Sunbirds, who are 17th in the nation in NAIA, scored one run in the bottom of the first inning on Vaughn's one-out RBI single that drove in Karlan Andrew.  They added three more runs in their half of the third inning keyed by Vaughn's two-run double.

Fresno Pacific added another run in the fifth inning on Vaughn's solo home run. 

Sam Wilkins scored the Gators' run in the top of the eighth inning when he crossed home plate on a wild pitch.  He reached base on a fielder's choice and wet to second on a two-out infield single by Ivan Otsuka.  Wilkins then went to third when AJ Pianto walked to load the bases, which on the next pitch Wilkins scored the Gators' first run.

The hosts added another run in their half of the 8th inning to make the final 6-1 Sunbirds.

Matthew Cummins fell to 0-1 as he suffered the loss in his first start of the season.  Trae Lopez pitched one scoreless inning of relief for the Gators and Jeff Clegg went two innings, giving up two hits and one unearned run while striking out one.

Otsuka, Mark Lindsay and Danny Souza had each of the Gators' three hits.
