Box Score HAYWARD, Calif.--- SF State Gators fell into a tie for 9th place after a 46-41 loss at Cal State East Bay. The visiting Gators shot just 25% from the field including going 2-for-13 from three-point land.
Nicole Hicks led the Gators with 15 points (13 in the second half).
“On the road you have to able to finish lay-ups, put backs and free throws,” said SF State Head Coach Joaquin Wallace. “As a team, we struggle to do this, therefore, you have 5 point games on the road.”
Cal State East Bay, who moves into 8
th place, was led by Marlene Macmillan's 12-point,10-rebound performance. Lauren Lucchesi added 10 points for the Pioneers, who improve to 9-13 overall 6-10 in the CCAA.
The Pioneers jumped to an early 11-5 lead in the first seven minutes of the game. They increased their lead to 21-9 on a Micah Walker jumper with 9:09 left in the half. SF State ended the half on a 9-4 run to cut the deficit 25-18 heading into halftime.
The Gators (7-16, 6-11 CCAA) opened the second half outscoring their hosts 6-0 as they decreased the Pioneer lead just 25-24 in the first three minutes.
The hosts increased their lead back double figures as the Pioneers went on a 13-4 run in the next minutes as they took a 38-28 lead. Macmillan's jumper with 9:27 on the clock gave the host a 41-28 margin.
SF State would not go away as the Gators outscored the Pioneers 13-3 in the next 8 minutes to cut the hosts' lead to 44-41 with 1:10 left in regulation.
The Gators had a chance to tie the game on its next possession, but they missed a jumper and then were forced to foul the Pioneers' Macmillen who sealed the 46-41with two made free throws.
SF State will end its four-game road trip with a 5:30pm scheduled conference game in Seaside, Calif., tomorrow evening with Cal State Monterey Bay. The Otters defeated Cal Poly Pomona 67-62 this evening.
