No. 15 Wildcats Defeat Gators 3-2 On Another Walk-Off

Branden Petrangelo Had a No-Decision in the Gators' 3-2 Loss As He Had Three Strikeouts in 8 Innings of Work
Box Score  CHICO, Calif.---  For the second game in the four game, the 15th ranked Chico State Wildcats won in the bottom of the ninth with a walk-off single.  This time it was Blake Gibbs' with a two-out single up the middle on a 0-2 count that drove in Roger Boulden with the game-winning run. 

Branden Petrangelo recorded a no-decision in the start for the Gators.  The senior pitcher went 8 innings, giving up 8 hits and two runs while striking out three and walking three.  Jack Jorgensen (1-1) suffered the loss pitching the ninth inning in relief for SF State.

Mike Botelho (1-0) picked up the win in relief as he pitched one inning, giving up one hit and one unearned run while walking two.  Luke Barker started the game for Chico State (11-3, 5-3 CCAA), pitching 8 innings, giving up just three hits and one run while striking out four and walking one.

The Gators (5-6, 4-4 CCAA) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth when Dustin Wold scored on a single by AJ Almarez.  Wold reached on an one-out double.

Chico State tied the game at 1-1 on a two-out pinch hit single by Eric Angerer that drove in Cody Webber in the top of the 7th.

Cody Foster's solo home run in the eighth gave the Wildcats (11-3, 5-3 CCAA) a 2-1 lead.

SF State tied the game in its half of the ninth.  Wold singled up the middle to lead off the inning.  He advanced to second on a passed ball.  Then Almarez walked and both runners advanced a base on another passed ball.  AJ
Pianto was intentionally walked to load the bases. 

Botelho induced the next Gator batter to ground into a double play but Wold scored on the play to tie the game at 2-2. 

The Wildcat reliever got the next Gator to ground out to end the inning.

Boulden reached bases after striking out, but the ball got past the Gator catcher.  He went to second on a sacrifice by TJ Yasuhara.  Then with two outs, Foster was intentionally walked and then Austin Prott was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Gibbs then won the game for Chico State with the single to center field.

Foster and Prott each had two hits for the Wildcats. 

Leading the way for the Gators was Wold and Almarez each with two hits. 

SF State will return home this Friday, March 2 at 2pm, when the Gators begin a four-game conference series with Cal State L.A. with a single game at Maloney Field.
