Gators Rally Back To Defeat Cal State Stanislaus, 67-64

Nicole Hicks Recorded Her 7th 20-Point Game in the Gators' 67-64 Road Win in Turlock This Evening
Box Score TURLOCK,  Calif.---  The visiting SF State Gators rallied back from an 8-point deficit with 13 minutes left in the game to defeat the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors 67-64 this evening at Fitzgerald Arena on the campus of Cal State Stanislaus in Turlock.  The Gators were led by the trio of Nicole Hicks, Angela Van Sickel and Farrah Shokoor who combined for 44 of the Gators' 67 points.

“Tonight, we were able to use our defense to fuel our offense as our bench was incredible,” said SF State Head Coach Joaquin Wallace.  “Anytime you can get a win on the road is solid especially against Cal State Stanislaus, where we lost the five times.”  “I'll take a 4-5 record anytime and any day in this conference.”

Hicks led the way for the Gators with her 7th 20-point game of the season with a game high of 24 points.  The junior guard was 9 of 18 from the field and 6 of 8 from the charity stripe.  Shokoor recorded her third straight double-double and of the season by scoring 10 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.  This was her 6th game of the season of recording double digits in rebounds and third straight.  The Gator freshman also had career highs of four blocked shots and four steals.

Van Sickel had 11 points for the Gators, going   3-for-5 from three-point land and connecting on both of her free throws.  With the win, the Gators swept the season series from the Warriors.

Cal State Stanislaus (5-14, 2-12 CCAA) had four players in double figures in scoring led by Rosa Tirado with 17 points off the bench while Briana Cotton added 14 points and Lauren Godde and Jameiz Terrell each chipped in 13 points.

In the first three minutes of the game, the Warriors scored the first 7 points of the game.  SF State (7-14, 6-9 CCAA) four times cut the deficit to just three including with 1:07 left in the half on a lay-up by Charnay Bell to make it 31-28 Cal State Stanislaus.  The hosts' Lauren Godde scored the final four points of the half to give the Warriors a 35-28 lead into the locker room.

The Warriors started the second half like they did the first as they increased their lead to 47-38 on Rosa Tirado's two made free throws with 13:14 on the clock.

SF State outscored its hosts 15-6 in the next seven minutes to tie the game at 53-53 on a Shokoor lay-up. 
Jameiz Terrell's lay-up on the Warriors' next possession gave them a 55-53 lead, but the Gators' Kaylaa Davis scored back-to back jumpers on the visitors' next two possessions to give them a 57-55 lead (their first of the game) with a little under five minutes to go on regulation.

The Warriors took their last lead on Terrell's two made free throws with 2:09 to give them a 61-59 lead.

The Gators' Lauren Varney's lay-up on their next possession tied the game at 61-61 and then the Warriors missed both of their free throw attempts on their next possession. 

Shokoor gave the visitors a 63-61 lead, a lead they would not relinquish, with 64 seconds to go.  Cal State Stanislaus turned the ball over on its next possession and Nicole Hicks was then fouled.  Hicks went 4-for-6 in the final thirty seconds of the game as the Gators held on for the 67-64 road conference victory.

The Warriors had a chance to tie the game as the buzzer sounded but their three-point field goal attempt was short.

SF State's bench outscored the Warriors' 12-3 led by Davis with a season high 7 points.  The Gators also scored 28 points off the Warriors' 20 turnovers.

The Gators, who are in a tie for 7th place in the CCAA with Sonoma State, will travel to Chico, Calif., for a 5:30pm scheduled conference game with the Wildcats of Chico State.  The Wildcats lost 83-74 to Cal Poly Pomona this evening at home.  Chico State defeated the Gators 59-54 in San Francisco on Dec. 1.
