TURLOCK, Calif. Brittany Barcellos scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the San Francisco State softball team registered a 6-5 victory over Cal State Stanislaus at the Mizuno Best of the West Invitational on Sunday at Pedretti Park. With the victory, the Gators (2-3) salvaged the final game of the tournament after suffering a 12-6 defeat at the hands of Humboldt State earlier in the day.

SF State led by three heading into the top of the seventh against Stanislaus, when the Warriors rallied for three runs with two outs to tie the contest at 5-5.  Kaitlin Goulart drew a base on balls and was replaced by pinch-runner Laura Ginns, who promptly scored on Brittani Weatherford's triple to right center, while Rachel Borges followed with an inside-the-park home run.

Stung, the Gators fought back in the bottom of the frame as Barcellos reached on an error and later raced all the way home when Heather Jensen reached on a bunt single and advanced to second on a pair of late throws.

Barcellos' run made a winner of Ali Garcia (1-1), who relieved Torrey Rook with two outs in the first.  Garcia pitched the rest of the way, giving up just two hits until the seventh.

The Warriors opened with two unearned runs on a pair of passed balls in the top of the first, before CSUS returned the favor in the bottom of the inning.  Jensen led off with a single; Cara Spence drew a walk following a line-out, while Kylie Grabowski was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Moments later, a passed ball allowed Jensen to score, while Rook drove in Spence with an RBI ground-out.

The score remained deadlocked until the fourth when Kylie Herrada touched home on Lucy Fernandez's sacrifice fly.

SF State tacked two critical runs in the fifth when Jenna Wermes and Fernandez delivered RBI singles to give the Purple and Gold a 5-2 cushion.  Both scores came at the expense of CSUS reliever Kristan Burns (0-2), who absorbed the loss after spelling starter Natalie Rendon, who gave up three runs on four hits in four innings of work.

Jensen, Grabowski and Wermes had two hits apiece to lead the Gator offense, while Weatherford had two as well for the Warriors in the defeat.

SF State held a 5-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth against Humboldt State; however the Lumberjacks plated nine runs over the next three innings to break the game open.

HSU reliever Jennifer Sizemore was credited with the victory, allowing two runs on five hits in 4 2/3 innings after taking over for starter Jessica George, while Becky Nakano (0-1) was tagged with the loss for the Gators, giving up five runs on six hits in 2 1/3 innings after relieving starter Marisa Ibarra in the fourth.

SF State was paced by Grabowski's 3-for-4 effort at the plate, while Fernandez added three RBI.  In addition, Jenna Robertson scored three runs, while Barcellos contributed two hits in the defeat.

Conversely, the Jacks erupted for 16 hits in the game, including a 3-for-5 performance by Chrissy Stalf, who smacked a two-run homer in the first and later added three-run triple. Stalf finished with seven RBI, while Kirsten Nouzovsky had three hits of her own to go along with four runs scored.

SF State opens California Collegiate Athletic Association play on Friday, Feb. 10, when it battles Cal State East Bay in a road doubleheader, beginning at noon.
