Box Score 2 ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The visiting SF State Gators split their road conference doubleheader with Sonoma State this afternoon in Rohnert Park losing the opener 14-1 but coming back to win the night cap 6-1.
Ryan DeJesus (1-2) picked up the win while
Peter Reyes pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless relief en route to his second save and
Thomas Wood was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in to lead the way for the victors.
The night cap was scoreless until the Gator top of the fourth inning. With two outs,
Devon King reached on an error by the Seawolves. He advanced to second on a
Tyler Tulowitzki single through the left side.
Danny Souza then walked to load the bases for Wood. The senior outfielder then singled through the left side to drive in King with the game's first run.
SF State (12-13, 9-9 CCAA) scored two more runs in the sixth. King singled to lead off the inning and went to second on a walk to Tulowitzki. Souza reached on a fielder's choice to put runners on first and second. Wood then singled to right field to drive in Tulowitzki and Souza scored on an error by the Seawolves' outfield to increase the Gators' lead to 3-0.
Sonoma State came back with a run in its half of the sixth on a two-out RBI single by Garrett Gooselaw that drove in Evan Warner. Warner reached earlier on a one-out single and advanced to second on his fourth stolen base of the season.
The Gators added two more insurance runs in the eighth inning. Souza reached base on a one-out single up the middle and went to third on a double by Wood. They both scored when with two outs,
AJ Almaraz reached on another error by Sonoma State to give SF State a 5-1 lead.
Matt Quintero's solo home run to left field, his second of the season, gave the Gators a 6-1 lead in the top of the ninth inning.
Sonoma State made it interesting in its half of the ninth. Devon Zenn and Jeff Johnson had back to back singles to lead off the inning. They went to third when Jeff Boulware walked with one out. Reyes then induced the next Gator to a game ending 1, 2, 3 double play to preserve the 6-1 SF State win.
De Jesus pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 7 hits and one run while striking out three and walking one. Reyes pitched the final 2.1 scoreless innings of relief, giving up just two hits, striking out four and walking two.
The Gators had 12 hits in the night cap led by Wood's three hits. Almaraz, Tulowitzki and
Miguel Flores each had two hits apiece also for the visitors.
Taylor Herbert (2-3) recorded the loss for the Seawolves while Zenn and Johnson had two hits apiece to lead the Seawolves' offensive attack.
In the opener, the first place Seawolves jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first inning. Jackson Stogner had a bases clearing two-out double to left center to break the game open for the hosts in the bottom of the first inning.
Sonoma State (16-10, 14-4 CCAA) added insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings to make it 9-0 Seawolves. They added four more runs in the seventh with two of those runs coming on a double by pinch hitter Kyle Cerrudo. The hosts added their final run in the bottom of the eighth inning to increase their lead to 14-0.

Thomas Lee (5-0) picked up the win for the hosts, pitching 7 scoreless inning of one-hit ball. He had six strikeouts with two walks.
Eric Watts (0-3) recorded the loss for the Gators.
Stogner finished the first game 5-for-5 with three RBIs while scoring twice to lead the Seawolves' offense.
SF State, who is tied for sixth place in the CCAA with Cal Poly Pomona, managed just three hits in the first game of this afternoon's doubleheader.
The two teams will conclude this weekend's four-game series tomorrow morning with an 11am starting conference doubleheader at SF State's Maloney Field.
