SAN FRANCISCO --- SF State hosted Cal-Berkeley and Sonoma State this past Saturday in a round robin soccer event to benefit the E-Soccer Program at Washington HS in San Francisco. The Gators played Cal-Berkeley in the first game while Cal played Sonoma State in the second game. The afternoon was rounded out by a match between the two CCAA rivals SF State and Sonoma State.
After the first match E-Soccer executive director and founder Gregg Bodzioch and San Francisco E-Soccer program coordinator Ade Henderson introduced the E-Soccer program and concept to the participating teams and fans. Mr. Bodzioch and Henderson then recognized the SF State Men's Soccer program for their contributions to the San Francisco E-Soccer program. Then the student-athletes for the three teams participated in an E-Soccer clinic for the kids of the program who were in attendance.
“We were honored to be able to assist the folks at E-Soccer this season,” said head coach Joe Hunter. “This was a great honor to be presented with this award from the E-Soccer program.” “It was also a great privilege to assist them this past couple of months and we look forward to continue our relationship with them next year as well as hosting the E soccer family at one of our home games next season.”
The E-Soccer (Exceptional Children Soccer) is an all-volunteer program that has been running for nine years in the Bay Area, teaching soccer to children ages 5 and up in an inclusive environment. The program is dedicated to empowering both typical and special needs children of all abilities to reach their full athletic and social potential. E-soccer's inclusion methodology promotes leadership, social, character, and athletic development for each child in an individual manner. They respect every child's ability to be successful and included. Children are taught to learn from one another.
