SAN FRANCISCO – The San Francisco State softball team swept a doubleheader  from visiting Cal State Stanislaus on Tuesday, posting a 4-3 victory in the opener on Kelly Mast's walk-off home run, before squeezing out a 1-0 triumph in the nightcap on Lucy Fernandez's late sacrifice fly.

With the results, the Gators (16-30, 9-23 California Collegiate Athletic Association) captured the series three games to one as the second twin-bill between the two sides was finally completed after rain forced two schedule changes from the original date of March 24.

In game one, the Warriors (15-40, 6-26 CCAA) struck first when Sarah Locarnini, who led off the contest with an infield single, advanced to third on two consecutive Gator throwing errors and later scored when the throw home on Jordan Flora's fielder's choice grounder was late. Following a ground-out, Flora raced home on Vanessa Del Toro's RBI single, putting the visitors up 2-0.

SF State's wasted no time with its response as Courtney Gravel's clutch three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the first inning plated Kylie Herrada and Fernandez, who both earlier singled.

It didn't take long for Stanislaus to flash its power, however, as Locarnini led off the third with a solo shot to knot the score at 3-3 apiece.

The scored remained unchanged until the bottom of the seventh when Mast blasted a 2-2 offering from Warrior starting pitcher Brittani Weatherford (8-16) over the fence in left-center field as the Gator bench erupted in jubilation.

Mast's heroics made a winner out of SF State reliever Ali Garcia (2-6), who took over for Marisa Ibarra to start the sixth.  In that inning, Garcia survived three consecutive walks with two outs, ultimately receiving a timely ground-out to avert potential damage.  The Gator hurler then faced a first-and-third situation with two outs after a Weatherford double and subsequent stolen base, followed by a walk to Del Toro.  However, Garcia persevered as Brieanna Stone's liner harmlessly fell into the glove off left fielder Sarah Catania, setting the stage for Mast's dramatic hit.

Despite six strikeouts, Weatherford took the loss after surrendering all four runs on five hits and two walks, while Ibarra went five innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk.

In game two, the two sides were locked in a classic pitcher's duel as Becky Nakano (6-7) scattered five hits and a walk, while recording four strikeouts for her first complete game shutout as a collegian.

The Gators, who managed just three hits off Stanislaus starter Natalie Rendon (5-17), worked some late-inning magic once again as Murakami led off the sixth with a clutch double down the left-field line and took third shortly thereafter on Gravel's single to right field.  Following a strikeout, Fernandez lifted a fly ball to left as Murakami tagged up and raced home with what proved to be the game winner.

Nakano then set down the side in order in the top of the seventh to give SF State its first four-game series victory of the season.

The Gators will look to maintain the momentum on Wednesday, when they play host to Notre Dame de Namur in a non-conference doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m.
