Warriors Sweep Gators in CCAA Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN FRANCISCO---The visiting Cal State Stanislaus Warriors swept a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader from the SF State Gators behind the pitching duo of Rafael Vasquez and Chris Short, 14-1 and 11-0.  The two Warriors pitchers recorded two complete game victories while striking out 10 batters, walking 7 and giving up 9 hits and one run between the them this afternoon at SF State's Maloney Field.
 
SF State (14-26, 11-20 CCAA) struck first in game one as Dustin Wold scored in the bottom of the first on a ground out by Andrew Suvunnachuen.  Wold led off the inning with a walk and went to second on a wild pitch.  He went to third on a bunt single by Ivan Otsuka and scored on Suvunnachuen's ground out. 
 
The Warriors took the lead for good with a two-run second inning.  Jordan Long had a lead-off double and scored when Craig Beevers reached base on an infield single and went to third on an error by the Gators.  Beevers scored on a ground out by Joe Medeiros to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
 
Cal State Stanislaus added a run in the fourth and broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning.  Beevers one-out two-run single to left field was the big hit for the Warriors in the fifth inning as they took a 7-1 lead.
 
The visitors added another run in each of the sixth and seventh innings to increase their lead to 9-1.  They added three more runs in the 8th to take a 12-1 lead.  Then in the ninth, Eli Davis, who finished the game 3-for-5 with two RBIs while scoring three times, hit a two-run home run to left field to give the Warriors a 14-1 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning.
 
Vasquez (6-2) then preserved the complete game win as he shut down the Gators in the bottom of the ninth for the 14-1 Warrior victory.  He pitched 9 innings, giving up three hits and one run while striking out four and walking four.  Besides Davis' three hits, seven other Warriors had at least two hits.
 
Eric Watts (0-5) recorded the loss for the Gators.  The Gators had three hits in the opener led by Mark Lindsay, who went 2-for-4.
 
Chris Short (2-1) received all the support he needed from the Warriors as they scored six runs in the top of the second inning.  Colton Beatty's two-out two-run single through the right side capped the six-run second inning for the Warriors as they took a 6-0 lead. 
 
Cal State Stanislaus (24-17, 17-14 CCAA) added two more runs in the fourth and three more in the fifth to increase their lead to 11-0. 
 
Short pitched 7 innings of six-hit ball while striking out six and walking three.  Davis once again led the Warrior hitting attack going 4-for-6 with three RBIs and scoring two runs.  Medeiros added three hits for the visitors while Beevers and Michael Turray each had two hits apiece.
 
Branden Petrangelo (4-5) recorded the loss for SF State while Thomas Wood had two of the Gators' five hits in the night cap.

The two teams will conclude the four-game CCAA series tomorrow morning with an 11am starting single nine-inning game at Warrior Baseball Field in Turlock, Calif.  The Gators will then return home on Friday, April 27 at 3pm when they begin a four-game CCAA series with Cal State San Bernardino at SF State's Maloney Field.
