Mark Lindsay and
Miguel Flores were named to the 2012 All-California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) team that was announced by the conference office this morning. Lindsay was selected as the conference's Freshman of the Year while Flores was a Second Team selection as voted on by 11 head coaches of the CCAA.
Mark Lindsay is the first ever Gator baseball team to earn CCAA Freshman of the Year honors. He led the Gators with his .355 batting average, 59 hits, 21 RBIs and .412 on-base percentage. The first-year catcher played in 49 games and started in 47 while posting a .373 slugging percentage and a .993 fielding percentage. The Upland, Calif., native also scored 18 runs and had three doubles.
Lindsay had a team leading 15 multiple-hit games and four multiple-RBI games. Six times this season he had at least three hits in a game. He reached base safely in 43 of the 47 games he played in including a stretch of 22-straight games.
Miguel Flores batted .306 in his first season as a Gator after transferring from Chabot College. He started all 50 games for SF State at either third base, shortstop or second base. Flores led the team with his 69 total bases and had 55 hits of which 11 were doubles and one was a home run. The junior infielder drove in 19 runs while scoring 20 time
s. He also had a .951 fielding percentage and had two stolen bases.
Flores had a season long 10-game hitting streak from March 03 until March 30. During that stretch he had two multiple-hit games including a 4-for-4 performance against 2012 CCAA regular season champion, UC San Diego on March 17. This season, the Union City, Calif, native had 14 multiple-hit games and four multiple-RBI games.
Cal State L.A.'s Daniel Duran was named the CCAA's Most Valuable Player while Cal Poly Pomona's Geoff Broussard was the conference's Pitcher of the Year. UC San Diego's first-year head coach Marc Newman was named Coach of the Year.
