Box Score SAN FRANCISCO----    The SF State Gators won the fifth game in their last six games as they defeated the visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros 75-59 this evening at The Swamp in a CCAA showdown.  The Gators (7-4, 4-3 CCAA) held their visitors to just 31% shooting from the field and forced 22 turnovers to key their home CCAA win.

“Offensively we played well in our half-court offense against a scrappy Cal State Dominguez Hills team,” said SF State head coach Dr. Joaquin Wallace.  “However, we have to focus on our end of game execution of managing the ball and closing out teams.”

Angela Van Sickel led the way for the Gators with a game high 19 points while Farrah Shokoor added 11 points and Lauren Varney chipped in 10 points.

SF State outscored the Toros (3-8, 2-5 CCAA) 7-0 in the first three minutes of the game.  The Gators increased their lead to 22-6 on a jumper by Angela Van Sickel with 12:42 left in the first half, but Cal State Dominguez Hills would not go away.

The visitors cut the deficit to 22-15 as they outscored their hosts 9-0 in the next three minutes.  But once again, the Gators built their lead back to 16, 37-21, on a Farrah Shokoor made tip-in.

The Toros ended the half outscoring SF State 8-4 to cut the lead to 41-29 heading into the locker room.

The Gators held on to a double-digit lead for most of the early part of the second half, including their largest margin of the game, 62-44, with 9:17 left on the clock on a Brianna Harden lay-up.

The pesky Toros chipped at the Gator lead and cut it to 63-55 as Denisha Lundy's three capped an 11-1 run by Cal State Dominguez Hills.

SF State finished the game outscoring its guests 12-4 to take the 75-59 victory.

Jamie Robinson paced the Toros with 16 points off the bench.

With the win, the Gators are in a tie for fourth place with Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino and one game out of second place.

The Gators will host Cal State L.A. in another CCAA showdown tomorrow evening at The Swamp with tip-off scheduled for 5:30pm.  The Golden Eagles defeated Sonoma State 64-56 in Rohnert Park, Calif., this evening.
