Gator Trio Leads The Way In 69-45 CCAA Road Win

Nicole Hicks Led the Gators in Their 69-45 Road Win at CSUS with a Game High 16 Points

TURLOCK, Calif.  –The trio of Nicole Hicks, Farrah Shokoor and Angela Van Sickel combined for 38 points, 18 rebounds, 8 steals and 7 assists to key the Gators'  69-45 road conference victory over Cal State Stanislaus this evening in Turlock, Calif.  With the win, SF State improves to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the CCAA and has won its last four games in a row.
 
“Overall we played well defensively in the second half,” said SF State head coach Dr. Joaquin Wallace.  “I thought our half-court offense was good and we were able to force 29 turnovers as well.”
 
Nicole Hicks paced the Gators with 16 points and also added 7 rebounds, four assists and two steals.  Teammate Farrah Shokoor added 11 points, 6 rebounds and three steals while junior guard Angela Van Sickel chipped in 11 points and three steals.
 
SF State held its hosts to 41% shooting from the field including just 20% from three-point land.  Lauren Godde had 11 points to lead the way for Cal State Stanislaus (1-9, 0-5 CCAA).
 
The Gators jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the first six minutes of the game, but the Warriors cut the deficit to 10-8 on an Erin Godde lay-up at the 11:49 mark. 
 
SF State then outscored the Warriors 18-7 in the next seven minutes to increase its lead to 28-15.  The Warriors cut the Gator lead to single digits (32-23) on a Devin Brown jumper with 1:27 left in the half.  Van Sickel's jumper on the Gators' next possession gave SF State a 35-23 lead, but Natalie Winters connected on a jumper to send the visitors with a 35-25 lead into the locker room at the half.
 
The Gators came out strong in the second half and outscored Cal State Stanislaus 22-11 in the first 11 minutes of the new stanza to take a 57-36 lead.  They increased that lead to 67-38 on a Brianna Harden lay-up with 4:19 left in the game and cruised to a 69-45 victory. 
 
SF State will now travel up Route 99 to Chico, Calif., tomorrow evening for a 5:30pm scheduled conference game with #14 Chico State.  The Wildcats are 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the CCAA after defeating Sonoma State 70-48 this evening in Chico.
