Chico State Sweeps Gators, 3-0

Kelly Ostello Had 7 Kills and 4 Total Blocks This Evening for the Gators
Box Score SAN FRANCISCO— The visiting Chico State Wildcats (7-6, 4-2 CCAA) took three straight sets from the SF State Gators this evening in a CCAA match at the Swamp. The Wildcats posted a .299 hitting percentage led by Ellie Larronde's 14 kills for a .406 percentage while Alex Shurtz also had double digits in kills with 11.

"Chico State is a strong team that runs a very fast offense and ran it well this evening," said SF State head coach Jill Muhe. "We were one step behind tonight." "Luckily we get to come back tomorrow and hopefully get a step quicker."

SF State (7-6, 2-3 CCAA) came out strong early in the first set as the Gators took a 5-0 and they increased that lead to 8-1 on a Kaileen Mejia kill.

Chico State scored the next seven points capped by back to back kills by Ashton Kershner to tie the match at 9-9.

SF State retook the lead on the next serve and increased its lead to 12-9 on a Jazmine Williams' kill. The Wildcats scored six of the next seven points to take a 15-13, a lead they would not relinquish. They took advantage of some Gator errors to take the set 25-16.

The second set was evenly played for the first 12 points until Ashton Kershner's kill started a Wildcat rally as they scored five of next six points to take a 11-7 lead.

They continued their offensive attack as the Wildcats increased their lead to 20-9 on back to back service aces by Molly Ratto.

SF State cut the deficit to 24-15, but Alex Shurtz's kill closed out the set to give it to the visitors 25-15 and the Wildcats took a 2-0 set lead in the match.

After the break, the Gators played the third set even with their opponents as a kill by Kelly Ostello gave SF State a 10-9 lead. Chico State scored the next eight points to take a 17-10 lead.

The hosts would not go away as they cut the deficit to 17-13 taking advantage of a Wildcat error.

Chico State though would not cave in as they increased its lead to 23-17. The Wildcats finished the match as they scored two of the final three points capped by a Natalie Nordahl kill to take the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.

Meagan Wright and Kelly Ostello each had 7 kills to lead the Gators. Three players had 8 digs each for SF State in Melissa Horton, Jessica Nicerio and Wright.

The Gators will return to the court tomorrow evening at 7pm, when they host Cal State Stanislaus at the Swamp. The Warriors lost in three sets (25-17, 25-16, 25-9) to the #13 ranked Sonoma State Seawolves this evening in Rohnert Park. Tomorrow's match will also be the "Annual Dig For a Cure" Match at SF State.
